Guest kar
has anyone's greyhound ever hurt his back. doug started to yelp when getting off the couch. brought him to the vet and he feels he hurt his back he put him on cortisone, but i know he is in pain because he has become a velcro dog. Just started the cortisone today was wondering if anyone knew how long it would take to start working. I hate to see him in pain. He was fine yesterday, don't know how he hurt his back. tbhounds
It's actually pretty common for our hounds to have cervical issues. My girl has had two bouts of neck pain. No idea what brought it on--- her last flair- up came put of the blue. She walks with a harness now. Thankfully, most often they respond well to steroids, pain management and strict rest. Did your vet dispense Tramadol for your pup (for pain)?? Remember to give the steroids with food and you should give pepcid or prilosec to help prevent tummy troubles from the steroid. Guest kar
no he did not dispense anything for pain - but i cannot seem to keep him from jumping onto the couch - which is a problem because he yelps when he gets off. he is on strict rest so no walking for him, but i hate to see him in pain. they really do let you know when they are not feeling well. robinw
I also took phene to the vet today for a hurt back. The vet recommended that I use a harness to walk him to relieve some of the pressure from his neck, which might be a good idea for Doug, also. He was also given rimadyl for pain. It was kind of funny that he also suggested that Phene take it easy for the time being Quote Xavi the galgo and Peter the cat. Houndtime
Fuzzy's hurt back is at the bottome of his spine rather than the neck area. He refused to walk up the stairs or lift up into the van or truck. He has been on deramaxx for a month now and within three days was doing the stairs again. He has really bad Diarrhea today and I called to doctor to find out if it from the deramaxx and the doctor is out until Tuesday. And, no one else there could tell me. They are specialists in that medical center and I guess no one specializes in Diarrhea . grey14me
Does he play with stuffed animals? He could've hurt it when he was shaking them. Having dealt with two greys with neck/spine issues, mine have always been given an anti-inflamatory and a muscle relaxer. You also have to be careful because as soon as they start to feel better they will become more active and can re-injure themselves pretty easily. Yes, it can cause diarrhea. Just started the cortisone today was wondering if anyone knew how long it would take to start working. Cortisone or prednisone (pills)? Those would be anti-inflammatory and provide pain relief. Most times when we have had an issue here, it has taken 1-3 days for the meds to start working, and 3-10 days for the pup to seem 100% better. At that point, I try to keep the pup pretty quiet for another 2-3 weeks to prevent recurrence. Good luck! Guest kar
he gave him a shot and then then the pills. I think they are prednisone. Doesn't say on the bottle.
