Newgreymom
Dylan had seizures when we first adopted him 6 years ago. He had a stroke 1 year ago and has no deficit from it. He had a ruptured anal gland yesterday and the vet gave him Tramadol for pain. I'm nervous to give it due to the neurological problems he's had. He hasn't had a seizure in about 4 years...What are your thoughts on Tramadol??
Hubcitypam
I don't know about neurlogical problems in dogs but my sister is on the transplant list for a liver and tramadol is the only pain killer her transplant doctor approves of. It is not processed thu the liver and he says it has very few side effects in people...but he's not a neurologist and she's not a grey. Guest BooBooMama
One of the listed side effects IS seizures. (I checked my paperwork from Walgreens.) BooBoo never had seizures so we were not worried. Maybe your vet could give you another pain reliever due to Dylan's history with seizures.
JohnF
In my last dog, 'Angel' it induced heavy sedation for 24 hours and dangerous Arrythmias that lasted about 8 hours. A dopey dog with a heart running like an out of control motor with occasional sinus rhythm and idioventricaular rhythm at 140/minute is not to be recommended! A rare side effect only mentioned in the human literature as far as I could tell. The dog was in early CRF at the time and on Meloxicam that we wanted to come off of for pain control. Burpdog
It states that overdosing can cause seizures which is also true of flagyl. Info Quote Diane & The Senior Gang Burpdog Biscuits
macoduck
When Gracie's anal gland ruptured my vet said she wouldn't need anything for pain. Truthfully, she acted like it didn't bother her at all.
