Blu's Leg Update

Sorry this update has taken a while, but I have been working 2 jobs for the past two months which has left me with little time.

Some of you may remember this thread At My wits End

I continued to try some of the suggestions recommended in that thread to no avail and had made an appt to take Blu to a dermatologist.

I could not get him there for at least 3 weeks so I started doing lots of research on skin issues. A few people mentioned staff infections so I researched them and saw many pictures that looked similar to Blu's leg. My vet had put him back on antibiotics to prevent infection since he was chewing his leg raw. In my research I found that many people got wonderful results by using a Benzoyl Peroxide dog specific shampoo, so I ordered one figuring it couldn't hurt. DermaPet DermaBenSs Benzoyl Peroxide Plus Shampoo

Well, to my astonishment, after just one use I could see a difference in Blu's leg, it was a lot less red and the round crusty spots on the inside of his leg were barely visible!!! I could not believe it and figured as many other things I had tried, it would just be a temporary fix. I continued to use it every other day for a 10 days and his leg just got better and better AND most importantly he was NO LONGER BITING IT!!!!!!!!! :yay :yay

I gradually started decreasing his washings to once a week and now I have not done it for three weeks!!! (I will do it tonight again)

Well, not only is he not biting his leg, and it's all healed up, he has FUR ON HIS LEG!!!!!!!! It has never looked this wonderful and I could NOT be happier!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :banana:couchjump

I ended up not taking him to the dermatologist since his leg was looking so great, but it it gets bad again I know that it the next step, but :goodluck we won't need to do that.

So without further ado here are before and after pics

Incredible results! Hooray for you and Blu!!!

Thanks for providing the link. I'm going to try this on our elderly Dachsie, Ellie. We, too, have had numerous visits to the vet for skin issues, special food, elimination diets, allergy shampoo, etc.

Thrilled for you!!!
