Big Vinny

It seems to be too early for fall allergies, but gosh is he miserable! Big Vinny's feet are so red from him licking and licking them. I have him on Benadryl, it doesn't seem to be helping much, It just turns him into a zombie.

Big V has a Dr.'s appointment at 8:45am tomorrow. Please send good thoughts his way!

Poor Big Vinnie! There ARE other antihistamines the vet can give, that might help more than the Benedryl, without making him a zombie. Two of mine have chewed a littl hair off their tails, which, because I give many skin supplements, are allergies, too. NEVER too "early" for allergies, to those prone to them :-( Good Luck!

My friend had to change his GH to Whitefish and Sweet Potato, because she has a red rash all over her body. Vet originally thought it was a flea allergy ... turned out to be a food allergy.

Jeannie,

I am sure everything will be fine. He has made it through his leg operation, he will get through this just fine also.

Chad...he is a different dog since we took that plate out! He is so happy and even more playful. Except when he is hopped up on Benedryl!

I hope I don't have to change his food just when his poop has become so perfect!

Allergies tend to get worse and worse as time goes by.

My mixed breed dog Kramer started off having a problem from about June to Sept., but eventually it was almost all year.

The only relief he got during the difficult stages was from Prednisone. He was totally miserable otherwise, so we did short cycles on, followed by time off. It was awful for the poor dog.

Then I got George, and within six months he started to have similar symptoms. I couldn't believe it.

When I moved from my old condo to here, the symptoms completely stopped--so it turns out perhaps part of Kramer's problem was something IN my old condo, and not pollens, as I had thought.

I have no idea what--the carpet? Who knows. Something in the HVAC system? Don't know. I also had a cat who licked all the fur off her stomach in that apartment--and in this one? She's back to her furry self.

My point? It could be something other than pollens--some detergent or chemical in your home. These things are really hard to nail down.

George sends his love to his brudder from another mudder!

Well, I hope that's not the case for Vinny. I guess it could be anything. The Dr. said there are options before we try steroids. I should post a picture. It's pretty bad.

Oh my word. Sending gentle hugs to Big V and his momma.

Batman's only symptom of food allergy was a red itchy foot (yes, mostly one foot, altho there were some small signs on the others) but it appeared quite quickly after he started on the offending food. I know it can happen more slowly tho.

If contact allergy is a suspect, wonder if it would be worth the pain of putting Paws (little rubber booties) on when he goes outside for a week, to see if that helps anything??

Just got back from the vet. Ragweed is suspected. He tested to see if it was yeast or bacterial infection on the feet...it is bacterial. He gave Vinny cephalexin for the infection and Temaril-P for the allergies. Starting with 3 pills twice a day for 4 days, then backing it down to get to a good dose where he isn't itching. He wants me to call Monday to let them know how it's going. He also gave me some Gentamicn topical spray for his feet. Poor Vinny is tired of me telling him to stop licking his feet.

Jey...I do have those rubber booties....maybe I will try them too while he is outside. Dr. didn't want me to keep them wrapped.

I think Big V is on his way to white fuzzy non-itchy feet!

Poor Vinny! I like the booties sold by The Voyagers. They are easier than the Therapaws. : http://www.k9apparel.com/index.php?manufacturers_id=5.

The meds he was given SHOULD help! Darned allergies! Just like we humans, puppers are very prone to various allergies, as well. Both Goldie and Oakly has hair missing from their mid-tails ... from chewing. No doubt, allergies as well. Hug the Big Vinny for us!
