greysmom
Imuran is a human immunosuppressant drug that is given to organ transplant recipients to stop them from rejecting their new organs. My DH is actually taking this for ulcerative colitis. UC is a disease where the body's own immune system attacks the colon lining and the imuran helps keep this from happening. Vets have begun prescribing it to greys with severe IBD for the same reason. We had an internal specialist give a talk about IBD treatment at our Annual Meeting last Spring. You might talk with you vet about this if Conner keeps cycling through flare-ups and the pred isn't helping anymore. greysmom Quote Chris - Mom to: Felicity (DeLand), and Andi (Braska Pandora) siggy by Chris Harper, on Flickr Angels: Libby (Everlast), Dorie (Dog Gone Holly), Dude (TNJ VooDoo), Copper (Kid's Copper), Cash (GSI Payncash), Toni (LPH Cry Baby), Whiskey (KT's Phys Ed), Atom, Lilly

RobinM
As stated above Amanda and my PMs to you, I would ask your vet to use the imuran with the pred as it is very common and most effective. You will have to monitor hos bloods while on it to check his liver. We were doing it every 3-4 weeks in the beginning, now we do it every 2 months but we are lowering it. it comes in 50mg pill and it is a human drug. We get it at CVS 30 for about $37.00. Guest koolaidnconner
Conner has not been able to get back to his old self. He is still straining, some diarreha and vomiting. He is not screaming well going to the bathroom which has improved and he does not get diaherra all the time, soft poop but not splaty. So we spoke with the vet today and she is going to look into imuran as she has never had to prescribe it for a IBD dog she is going to consult with another vet. He is still on 20mg on predisone and peeing a lot and want to eat constantly.

RobinM
He may need an adjustment in his pred too just to get things under control. When Beau was 52 pounds, they started him on 40mg of pred. 3 weeks later we added the imuran. 2 months later we started very slowly we to lower the pred as the weight came back and he was feeling better.
