After numerous tests and a sonogram the vet really doesn't have any ideas. Any ideas from anyone here? Maybe there is someone that her vet can consult with...is there a vet school or some other larger facility with specialists that she can go to? Wallace had virtually every test known to veterinary-kind to work out the cause of his significant weight loss and nothing every came up on the tests. So the final test was a full body MRI scan and we got our answer from that. Unfortunately, Wallace has a brain tumour, deep within his brain, close to the stem. Of course, this may not be the case at all with your friends greyhound but I just wanted to share our experience in case you want to mention the scan idea to her. macdaddy Posted November 27, 2008 Share Posted November 27, 2008 My bridge girl Charm died in April 07 after an illness of several months...lots of pain,vomiting and weight loss progressing over time...it was very hard to diagnose(several vets, emergency vets etc. etc. $$$$) but one of the problems found by ultrasound was a large mass ....we thought it was a tumor and made the decision to let her go...turned out it was a very enlarged spleen....the autopsy revealed that her heart was badly scared we don't know why and she was throwing blood clots ...her spleen,liver and kidneys were just full of clots ...in my case there was nothing I could of done ...just something for you to consider ...my best for your friends pup... Guest Greensleeves Posted November 27, 2008 Share Posted November 27, 2008 Does he have any other symptoms beside the weight loss (appetite, mood changes, lethargy, lameness/weakness, etc)? We never found what was causing Whistler's weight loss. Eventually he was down to 62 lbs (this was a dog who was retired at 85 lbs for being "too fat to race."), and our vets put him on a very low daily dose of prednisone. He gained a good 13 pounds, which gave him a very good last year with us (he was nearly 13). Sometimes you just never find out "why," but you can figure out things to help. Good luck!
