Walter Having Surgery Tomorrow...

Our 11 year old Walter is having surgery tomorrow to have a cancerous tumour removed from his back leg. It's not huge and it's been there for a while - we all thought is was a harmless cyst which he seems to have several of. I can't remember exactly what kind of cancer the vet said it was - but it have to come off none the less.

Any way, that's not really what's troubling us. The albumin levels (protien) in his blood have been decreasing and he's been losing weight for no appearant reason (1.5 lbs in the last week alone). We've done all the usual tests for parasites, blood in the urine, blood in the fecal, a bile test for the pancreous - all normal or negative. His liver and kidney values are good also. I asked about Ecoli and the vet said if it was ecoli, something else would be causing it (somewhat grey savvy vet who doesn't mind the fact that I am tremendously bossy and outspoken).

So tomorrow, while they remove the lump, they will do an ultrasound and then an endoscopic biopsy of his intestines. We're trying to be cool about this and are hopeful that it's something that can be corrected with medication and diet...still, part of me is terrified he has something more serious going on in there...

Walter is our first greyhound and my husband's heart dog...we just lost our Wardy in November and I'm not sure we could handle another loss so soon...

Please keep him in your thoughts,

:(
