I Stood By Your Bed

I stood beside you bed last night

I came to have a peek

I could see that you were crying

You found it hard to sleep

I whined to you softly

As you brushed away a tear

"It's me, I haven't left you.

I'm well, I'm fine, I'm here."

I was close to you at breakfast

I watched you pour your tea

You were thinking of the many times

Your hand reached down to me

I was with you at the shops today

Your arms were getting sore

I longed to take your parcels

I wish I could do more

I was with you at my grave today

You tend it with such care

I want to reassure you though

That I'm not lying there

I walked with you toward the house

As you fumbled for your key

I gently put my paw on you

I smiled and said "It's me."

You looked so very tired

As you rested in the chair

I tried to let you know

That I was standing there

It's possible for me to be

So near you everyday

To say to you with certainty

"I never went away"

You sat there quietly

Then you smiled, I think you knew

In the stillness of that evening

I was very close to you

The day is over....Now

I smile and watch you yawning

And say "Good night, God Bless,

I'll see you in the morning."

And when the time is right

For you to cross the brief divide

I'll rush across to greet you

And we'll stand side by side

I have so many things to show you

There is so much for you to see

Be patient, live your journey out

And then come to be with me.

(I do now know who to credit this but I thought it was absolutely beautiful)

I must get a box of tissues for the computer area! This was so wonderful. How we loved and will continue to love our bridge kids. Sarah (keeshond) at the bridge for 10 years and Bear (keeshond) at the bridge for 2 years.

what a way to start my morning, I love these poems, but i am such a emotional mess when I read them. All it takes is the first line and the lump in my throat starts and then the tears.

"To err is human, to forgive, canine" Audrey, Nova, Cosmo and Holden in NY - Darius and Asia you are both irreplaceable and will be forever in my heart beatinghearts.gif

Guest Hilda Forister for her dog Bool.

:(

That poem could not have moved me tonight more. I just lost my black greyhound Bool to kidney cancer & my heart is just breaking...but this poem let me know that his spirit is still in my heart & soul.

I have always believed that our loved ones stayed with us for a while after they died. And now I am convinced even more. Whoever wrote that poem, I want to thank them. It really has helped me tonight.
