The surgeon left a message today. Once again she used that word "thrilled" so I knew the rest of the message was going to be good. His PLI was 75 - perfectly normal and his protein and liver #s were significantly improved. She said to keep him on the low fat diet and check the #s again in 2-4 weeks.

Alex has had a fairly good weekend. However, he vomited this morning and had some diarrhea this evening. We have decide that the canned prescription food is too dry since it has very little fat in it. After he threw up this morning from choking on it, we decided to start adding some water to it and making it somewhat of a gravy consistency. It seems like it is getting stuck in his esophagus possibly from being so dry. So far, so good but then some slight diarrhea tonight after eating his last meal; not sure what that was all about. He also refused to eat his last meal the first time so we waited a couple of hours then put a few pieces of his normal dry food (Eagle Pack fish/oatmeal) on it to entice him. It worked but I hope that little amount doesn't make the pancreas mad. He seems so frail and thin but hopefully he will start to thicken up a bit with consistent meals. She said with the recent bloodwork so good that we can start to feed him every 6-8 hours instead of every 3 hours. He seems to like the larger proportions and is ready for them (except tonight). I need to read back through the posts because I remember some good suggestions on putting weight on a dog with pancreatitis (not that he has it at the moment but the vet said it can reoccur easily once a dog has had it).
