RobinM
It's funny (not ha ha funny) that I just posted a picture on Friday saying "doesn't Beau look GREYT 2 weeks post op . We were on a long walk and someone snapped the picture. Here's where we are at now: On Saturday morning after breakfast, I took the pack outside in the back to enjoy some summer breezes. I noticed that there was blood seeping through the ace bandage, which covers the cast. It looked like it was coming from the pad area. PArt of the ace bandage had been worn away from walking on the cement. We took him into the vet, they brought him in the back for 1/2 hour and brought him back out with a new ace bandage wrapped around the cast and told us it was cut (My DH didn't ask WHAT was cut, don't get me started about that one) and to start wearing the bootie for walks. From the time he was brought home from the vet, he has been limping worse than he was after his major surgery. He is actually tripoding, rather than walking. We plan on bringng him in tomorrow morning. My DH thinks we should open up the bottom of the bandage to expose it incase it is wrapped too tight or if it is infected. I say leave it alone till tomorrow. Beau is a bit down, not happy, not sad. He's sick of all of this too. What does everything think??? Batmom
I'd want to make sure that bandage/cast wasn't too tight now, not later. Best luck. The cast has been on for 2.5 weeks and the ace is new, we will readjust the ace. Guest PhillyPups
Can you see his toes? If you can and they are swollen or starting to swell it is too tight.
RobinM
Can you see his toes? If you can and they are swollen or starting to swell it is too tight. No, His whole foot is wrapped in the ace. The cast goes from the ankle up. WE JUST FOUND OUT--- It's not an ace bandage, it's a tape. We will not be able to put it back on if we take it off. I don't know what to do. We just applied a bit of pressure to the pad site over the tape and he let out a little yelp and then went right back to gnawing his hoof. Batmom
It's just Elastikon (tan athletic-type tape) or the equivalent. You can get some at most any drug store. If he's gnawing on it, something's wrong and it needs to be checked. Batmom
(I think it's a cow hoof he's gnawing on, Jey...) Ah, that makes more sense. If it were me, I'd still want to get that off and have a look. If he cut his foot or lower leg, you can get some swelling there, not a good thing if it gets constricted. RobinM
(I think it's a cow hoof he's gnawing on, Jey...) OK 1) Batmom-- it is not too tight 2) he is NOT gnawing on HIS hoof, he is gnawing on a cow hoof as oxgirl said. It's definitely sore. When he applies the pressure, it hurts. That makes sence. I just don;t know what he did or what exactly he cut. The fact that he limping to the point of only using 3 legs after all we've gone through... seems like a major set back. We were on our way and now here we are... again. (I think it's a cow hoof he's gnawing on, Jey...) Ah, that makes more sense. If it were me, I'd still want to get that off and have a look. If he cut his foot or lower leg, you can get some swelling there, not a good thing if it gets constricted. But he was seen by the vet yesteday and this is new tape/bandage. He's limping becasue it hurts to put pressure on it. I will bring him in 1st thing in the morning to make sure it is not infected and healing the way it should. I also want to know what he cut. Guest PhillyPups
Were you given anything for pain management? If not a coated aspirin such as ecotrin or ascriptin would help with the pain. to you all

VinnieAndRexsMom
I'm in the "take a look" group, too. He is obviously uncomfortable, and I'd be looking to see why. He could have infection in the cut, and the tape could just be in the wrong place. If you don't have the same tape to put back on, you could maybe tape a sweat sock on his foot for protection. In a pinch I've used medical tape, masking tape, and duct tape... just as long as your tape isn't stuck to him, he'll be fine. If not a coated aspirin such as ecotrin or ascriptin would help with the pain. to you all I gave him a deramax this morning but that is really not for this type of pain. We just did a short walk, he was tripoding VERY FAST! He's not whimpering, complaining or whining. He really lets us know when things are upsetting to him. When I asked "who wants a walk?" He got up and his tail was wagging which is a good sign. We are bringing him in to seen seen by vet, just in case before we go to work. What's the difference if I am late again!!??? It's for Beau. Will update tomorrow. Thanks and goodnight! RobinM
Took him in this morning and the splint that they put on Saturday, was rubbing and caused an infection. They removed the splint, put him on antibiotic and he is walking better. After all this they had the nerve to charge us $35.00 for a rewrap even though it was becasue of their error. But it gets better. Becasue we brought him in 1st thing in the morning instead of waiting and making him suffer, they added on an addtional $30.00. The 3K for the surgery just wasn't enought I presume. YEESH. We are burning becasue of this. I will take it up with one of the docs on Thursday when we are there for his 3 week post op. Rickiesmom
Poor Beau. I hope this is the last of his trials with this leg. And I agree, have the vet credit you for those charges - inappropriate.
