LadyBailey
Saddlebred was Andy's dad and we are so sad to hear of his passing. We were fortunate enough to be in touch with Teddy Palmer via email and were able to share photos of the two boys. Andy looks so much like his dad - we will always see Saddle when we look at our Andy. Here is a copy of the email that I got his weekend... Run free sweet boy. --- Saddlbred, a simple, solid name, much like the dog. He was a patriarch that guarded his pack. Saddle always remained outside until all his charges were safely inside. Which is how Teddy came to know him. She was working turn outs at the farm and Saddle walked between Teddy and the other rambunctious males to shield her. He was never demanding. He waited quietly until Mom was able to address his needs. He was the one dog that could always be trusted to share space with Blue even during her seizures. I didn't really think of his as alpha because of his gentle ways, but really he was the best alpha for the same reason. He wasn't a fighter or domineering. He protected. Everyone! Saddlebred was an excellent racer who stayed in Grade A or AA for most of his career. He was in several stake races. And he sired some great dogs a few of whom we've had the pleasure to know. In fact, Saddle was a foundation stud of the Abita racing kennel. No one who met Saddle ever doubted the quality of the dog in any way. The Palmers and the rest of us who knew him will miss him very much. We smile at the pleasure knowing him brought while shedding tears for losing him. ---
