    Erin Mcfuzzybutt

Just saw your new sig memorial in another post... Godspeed to you, Erin, and wishing you lots of yummy, crunchy stuff at the Bridge!
  2. So weird!!! This just happened for the first time with Spicy on Friday, too!!! It only lasted for about two minutes; while she was doing it I was trying to describe it to myself (in case I had to describe it later to a vet)...very difficult. Hiccupy, gaggy, but nothing too extreme and nothing coming up/out. She only seemed mildly distressed. It seemed most like the allergen-induced phlegmy-ness that I get this time of year. She hasn't done it since.
  3. I've "known" you for one minute, Gracie, but I'll never forget your sweet face. Godspeed, angel! ...And big hugs and kudos to all of you who rescued and loved her!
  4. Great googly-moogly!!! He is stunningly gorgeous! And, I'm tellin' ya again... He's a "Wonderboy" if ever there was one! There's a underlying heroic quality about him that just pours out of his eyes and I think the people who gave him his first name saw it in him, too. I think "Wonderboy" suits him not only because it says it all, but because it's unique. Spikes are a dime-a-dozen, and there's even another Ferris mentioned in this thread! In any case, congrats!!!!
  5. Wow...just went to their web site and checked it out. Read that carefully...you really don't get reimbursed very well, IMO. I think we might be better off putting the premiums in a savings account! Will have to run all the numbers...
  6. He has (or had; she'd be really old now if she's still around) a female pup named Schuyler. Schuyler passed away last year. The final panel of the Frazz strip on 6/11/06 bore a tiny note that read, "Rest well, Schuyler (1990-2006)". I wrote to Jef Mallett and he was kind enough to confirm that he had indeed lost his beloved greyhound. ALSO, former New York Yankees’ first baseman and current Bench Coach, Don Mattingly, and his wife Kim own several greyhounds. They are members of GPA/Tri-State in Evansville, Indiana, where their farm is located. Lois Thanks for the update, Lois! I had noticed that, too, and wondered if that wasn't the case. Wow...15 or 16 yrs old? That's pretty old for a grey, isn't it?
  7. Willkommen! Seis is beautiful and seems so happy in the pictures! Congratulations. (And, yes, no apologies needed for your English! Anyone who learns English as a second language well enough to be understood is to be commended! It is a silly (difficult) language!)

    Tigger

Just saw these threads... Jenn, I think sometimes the lack of cash turns out to be one of those "back door blessings," because having unlimited funds sometimes lets us put off making the hard, but right, choice. I know that this aggressive liver cancer really didn't leave you with a choice this time. But I think sometimes our advanced capabilities in medicine--what we can do--makes it easier to ignore what we should do. You selflessly took the burden of physical and emotional agony from Tigger and put that burden upon your own heart as grief; it's the ultimate "I've got yer back, my friend" moment. I wish you peace in that assurance. Godspeed, sweet Tigger! Your infectious smile is front and center on my "faves," too!
  10. Thanks so much for your perseverance, Jeff! NOW we're all really ready to play!!! And thanks for the month, too...not necessary, but appreciated!
  11. Does anyone else get the comic strip "Frazz" in their papers? Jef Mallett is the creator, and there's a character, Miss Plainwell, who has a retired racer named "Mario". (She's been depicted using a retractable leash on him...I emailed Mr. Mallett recently and asked him to switch to a regular lead...haven't heard back.) Anyway...wondered if HE's adopted retired racers?

    Dv's No Layoff

Bless you, Heather! This has bothered me since one of the dogs "in transition" passed away while we were waiting for Sweetie. It's like, I KNOW they're at the Bridge, but who are they waiting for? Someone who looked deep into that baby's eyes and who hugged and kissed that beautiful face in person has GOT to promise publicly that when THEY go, they're gonna take him or her along with their whole pack across The Bridge! Then it's okay. Sorry to blubber, but dang that's sad.

    Arnold

Sending prayers to my Scamp to get together with Penny and Roxy to give Arnold little piggie hugs & happy whistles at the Bridge.
  14. Hi, everyone! This is the third time I've tried to do this today; lots of tears. But in the meantime, I've taught myself how to scan old photos, (finally!) and would like to share my Angels at the Bridge with you... A year ago today, Roxanne went to the Bridge. She was my "First-Born;" I was teaching high school when she was a wee one, and she'd go to the football games with me in my parka pocket! I never would have had a small dog, but the apartments I lived in had size restrictions. Now I'm glad, because I'll never again dog-descriminate based on size! As much as I'm loving getting to know Sweetie and greyhounds, I also feel really blessed to have shared almost 14 years with cairn terriers! The fierce loyalty and kooky, stubborn, tenacity...I can't find the words, without dissolving into sobbing, to express how much I love & miss her. This is Roxanne a couple of weeks before she passed, about a month shy of her 14th birthday (with post-drink dribbly-chin). This is Lucille, when she was a puppy. She joined our family about 1 1/2 yrs after Rox. This pic really captured her personality, before her insane allergies kicked in. We spent years trying to pin them down and eventually, just to give her a quality of life, we resorted to daily steroids (with dosages minimized by healthy eating and antioxidants). But they took their toll, and she passed on in January 2002, three months after her 9th birthday. She was always the quiet observer and, as a little four-year-old friend noted, "The Lo-o-o-ove Dog"! She'd snuggle like it was her job! Lucille... The girls were always good (for about five minutes) about letting me take pictures...it was windy this day, and this result always makes me laugh (if not remain PC): "Ah-so, Mama-san, how you like our Shar-pei impersonation?" And this yellowed, treasured, pic is of my sister-dog, Rollie (GT'er RollieGirl and I have PM'd re: only other "Rollie" each other has known!). She, too, was around 9 when her kidneys failed. She was a Rottweiler-Collie mix that was the BEST dog to grow up with. She went on all our vacations with us, did her nightly rounds to tuck us in, barked at strange men, and just loved us all so much. I was a thousand miles away when my folks had her PTS (this was in 1980)...it hurts to this day that I couldn't tell her one more time how much she meant to me. But I sent that message along with Rox & Luc...I know they're all bein' silly ol' girls together at the Bridge. Rollie... If you've read to this point...thank you for letting me share! It's so nice to have people to "talk" to who really understand the depth of my emotions, especially today.
  15. Perfect timing on this thread! I couldn't bring myself to make a vet appt. just for nail trimming (had other things to do there, too, for the first few months), and the PETsMART grooming experience we had last month was BAD. So I went and bought some clippers, (the Bamboo brand ones with the file and styptic powder included) and...NERVOUSLY...clipped Sweetie's nails. Of course, I made two of them bleed (black ones), and we had a miserable time (she forgave me). So, I'm never doing that again, and will be off to buy a Dremmel and accessories this week. That doberdawn.com website is so comprehensive! I think it sounds like a much better method. Thanks all for the input here...wish I'd checked it sooner.
  16. I voted 15-30 minutes because that's how much time we spend on actual "walks"...on a leash, walking, around the neighborhood or local park. That's mostly because, frankly, I'm WAY overweight and until I build up more endurance, that's all I can handle. (We've just had Sweetie since mid-Nov.) Weather, of course, can factor in as well. However, she spends a good 45-60 seconds running HIGH SPEED laps around the yard at least once a day (often twice), about 5 minutes playing fetch with her "Big Mean Kitty" and then will spend another 10-15 minutes 3-4 times a day trotting around the fence line and back and forth across the lawn tracking the bunnies and birds. So as far as "off the couch and moving" time goes, it's more like an hour and a half or so...just not all together.
