  1. Oliver was "digging' his fluffy dog bed and went a$ over end, yelping. Limping on front paw. Will walk on it slowly. Panting. Won't lay down. Gave him a Rimadyl and Rescue Remedy. DH is holding ice pack on it. Putting cool wet towels so he doesn't over heat. We can hear a 'crackly' noise but we can touch him all over with no yelps. Could it be broke without him yelping? NOt sure if we can get him in car to evet? What to do? eta: he's nearly 13.
  2. Here's a few more pictures I took at Diane's house : I like how the sun and shadows make Babs a brindle. "I'm such a purty gurl. And I don't have nearly enough beds."
  3. My first thought is allergies. Have you used a new carpet/floor cleaning solution? Have you used any chemicals on your lawn?
  4. Lori I was worried about how you were goning to break this Monty. I presume you had to wake him up to tell him? Babs is the sweetest girlie. She let out one bark when I walked in Diane's home but then must have decided that I smelled sufficiently of dog 'cologne' and that I was OK. She forced me to give her massages and ear scritches. OK Diane. I'm sure you're gonna be checking this post out after your night shift. You need to describe your shopping spree and how you accosted a priest in the process........
  5. You describe how all 3 of mine were briefly. It hit Gracie the worst so I took her to the vet. She had to spend the day since she was dehydrated. But the vet gave all of them flagyl and that knocked it right out. Garcie also got some thick liquid tubed down her throat to help her tummy. As best we could figure out, all 3 of them drank out of the bird bath - something I'm never seen them bother with before. The vet's best guess was that it was the "bird bath tea" that got them. No more birdbaths in our yard now.
  6. Please welcome Miss Babs to GreyTalk. Her mom, Diane (seaturtle1), has been lurking for a long time and just this past weekend brought home her new little girl. Until she gets set up with a photo server, I'll share a few teaser pictures with you.
  7. This link will take you to the thread about Oliver's first episode of Vestibular disorder and nystagmus. Scroll down to post #10 for more info: http://forum.greytalk.com/index.php?showtopic=164933 While Oliver has not had any more episodes, typically the syndrome will occur more frequently and for longer amounts of time. With the exception of not having the rapidly shifting eyes, Polly's symptoms are much like Oliver's.
  8. Thinking good thoughts for Dusty and you tomorrow.
  9. So glad to hear Beau is feeling a bit better.
  10. You definitely do not want him to overheat! When Oliver had his recent vestibular disorder episode the vet said we wouldn't have to bring him in (if he had another episode)but to make sure that if he pants heavily that we keep him cool. Can you take his temperature. Trying to remember...that day Oliver's temp was over 105 (bad) and today Gracie's temp at the vet was 101 (good). If an evet can't give you any help please PM Burpdog. Do you have fans to put in the room he's sleeping in? Try some wet cloths on his foot pads, neck and belly.
  11. Gracie saw the vet today. Her limp has been the same all week - not severe but just enough to worry me. Vet did a thorough physical exam and gave her an injection of dexamethasone (anti-inflamatory steroid) since she hadn't tolerated the Rimadyl well. We are to call him next week with an update. If she hasn't improved he'll consider a closer look. He is always amused by the written patient "history" I type up for any visit.
  12. Oh DeVon, I am crying right along with you. I think perhaps Skittle waited until she could be with you before she left for the bridge. No dog was ever loved more than Skittle. You saved her when she most needed a human to understand her. You and Amber gave her a quality of life that she would not have gotten elsewhere. Please continue to post pictures and stories of Skittle when you can. Hugs to you, Amber and Randy.
  13. Gracie continues to limp. No tender areas toes-to-shoulders/neck. No corns. She tries to run (dang squirrels!) but catches herself and stops. This is so not like her. I have been giving her Rimadyl with little effect. I've made a vet appointment for her Friday afternoon. I asked their protocol if she needed xrays and the reply was no food/water for 12 hours prior to appt. How standard is that timeline? Certainly if she had a very light breakfast at 5:30 am and a bit of water, but then nothing until 3:30pm that should be enough time for her stomach to empty. When doing human xray studies we always told patients no food/water after midnight. What specific lab work might show a cancer? What pain or anti-inflammatory med would help rather than Rimadyl since it is giving her loose poop?
  14. Hugs and prayers heading your way..........
  15. Well at least some poop came out. That's better than a blockage. Oliver will have that mucousy poop sometimes. More hugs and prayers for the Fruitbat and you coming your way.
  16. We were very fortunate that you, Christina, and the other greyhound rescue groups in NC and surrounding states were there to help these dogs. I live on the other side of the state, but I went to each veterinary office in my town with printouts of the news articles at the time of the seizure. I don't know how many actually followed through with donations, but I will give kudos to the vet at our local Petsmart who said, "I'll pack up a box of medical supplies right now!"
  17. She just turned 7 on May 1st. Even my DH said that was the day he thought she changed too.
  18. Given other's medical problems these are minor. But I'm a worrier. Gracie's been a bit off for the past 2 weeks. It's as if on her birthday she decided she's old. Eating/pooping/running OK. Today she started limping. I can't find anything wrong with her front leg, shoulder or foot and pads. What worries me most is that I dreamed she had cancer and too often my dreams (the very few I remember) come true. I am definitely going to do some positive thoughts before bedtime. I gave Gracie one of Oliver's Rimadyls and hope by morning that this was just a strain.
  19. Poor Fruitbat! That fee sounds high to me too DeVon. Our angel Rosie le Mutt and anterior crusiate ligament repair for about $600. Our vet said expect the other knee to need the surgery as well within a year - and he was right. Both surgeries were tolerated well and healed fast. Rosie was a calm dog but turned into a rocket if she saw a squirrel. I hope you find a less expensive solution for Ms Fruitbat. Miss Pudge le Mutt sends sniffs and licks.......
