  1. We are retired and home a lot but our routine is pretty strict.

6.20...Up and out into garden for toiletting

6.30...Dogs breakfast then we have ours.

    8-9....Walk and off lead time

Noon...Wees in garden then a couple of biscuits for lunch

1.30...Short car ride to riverbank for off lead time

  2. We have long thick bright green grass growing whevever on the lawn my girl pees. I guess this is something to do with the chemical makeup of her pee, though I'm not sure what it indicates. Must admit though.....I do keep guiding her to the bare, brown and grotty looking patches in the hopes she'll work miracles there too!! :colgate

  3. That must be terrible for both you and the hound. Can you take him away for a day and spend some time in someone else's house to see if it is just your house/neighbourhood that is the problem. If he would settle in the car or away from home at least you would know better where to start looking for the cause.

  4. Have you tried tethering him to you with a leash? That way, you'll know when he's about to go and can simply walk him right outside atthat moment to go. Just an idea....

I totally agree with tethering. It's the best way with a male that tries to sneak away to do his business...

Can't see why any dog needs to sneak away to do his business if his owner is aware of his needs and responding to his signs for wanting to go out to potty. Over here I know of nobody who uses belly bands or tethering and few who crate.....we just respond to our dogs signs for needing to empty or take them out every 3-4 hours anyway.

  5. I would just take him out more often when you are home. Obviously he is more awake and active when you are there and that will make him need to empty more. Six hours is quite a long time but if you have a garden you could just let him out to empty and not need to take an extra walk.

  6. Luckily we are retired so the hounds are never left for more than three hours or so and never in the evenings. We do try to leave them alone a couple of mornings a week though, so they will not develop SA and will be able to cope on the odd occasions we are both out at the same time.

  7. My Sonny had a corn on his front right paw, couldn't walk on hard surfaces and held the paw up. Hulling didn't last long and the reports I read on surgery were not encouraging either. I got something called Bazooka Gel from the chemist which people over here(UK) use for verruccas/warts/corns etc. I dabbed this on the corn according to instructions 6 days a week after soaking the paw and rubbed the corn with an emery stick on the seventh day. This went on for weeks with the corn gradually getting smaller until it finally disappeared. Now after almost nine months it has not returned and my boy can walk and run on anything again.

  8. I'm a crate-hater too (UK where it's not so common) so I fuly agree with Jenn8 and jharr. I would try to watch her when she has free run of the house and spend time with her in every area till she catches on to the idea of the whole inside being her 'crate' and learns that all pottying is done outside.

  9. I wouldn't hold out any hopes this will stop though I hope it does. One of mine showed no interest in poop until we had the ice and snow and she discovered frozen poopsicles. Now even though they are no longer frozen, she goes searching for any she can find, her own or others in the garden or out on walks. She finds and gobbles quicker than I can shout 'leave it' so I am having to muzzle her every time she goes out of the house.
