  2. Hope he still has many happy corn-free years to enjoy with you too.
  3. We have long thick bright green grass growing whevever on the lawn my girl pees. I guess this is something to do with the chemical makeup of her pee, though I'm not sure what it indicates. Must admit though.....I do keep guiding her to the bare, brown and grotty looking patches in the hopes she'll work miracles there too!!
  4. That must be terrible for both you and the hound. Can you take him away for a day and spend some time in someone else's house to see if it is just your house/neighbourhood that is the problem. If he would settle in the car or away from home at least you would know better where to start looking for the cause.
  5. Just shows you how intelligent greyhounds are! He showed you he understood the game, got bored after proving he could do it easily and went off to find his own entertainment. Now that's a bright dog I reckon!
  6. I totally agree with tethering. It's the best way with a male that tries to sneak away to do his business... Can't see why any dog needs to sneak away to do his business if his owner is aware of his needs and responding to his signs for wanting to go out to potty. Over here I know of nobody who uses belly bands or tethering and few who crate.....we just respond to our dogs signs for needing to empty or take them out every 3-4 hours anyway.
  7. I would just take him out more often when you are home. Obviously he is more awake and active when you are there and that will make him need to empty more. Six hours is quite a long time but if you have a garden you could just let him out to empty and not need to take an extra walk.
  8. Could you clip him on a short lead and fasten it to something so he can only reach his own food bowl until all the others have finished? We often do this with paired kennelled greys so they cannot interfere with each other whilst eating especially if one is slower to finish.
  9. One of mine dislocates the same toe quite often, outside toe left front foot, and within a couple of hours everything is back to normal again. I just leave him to it now and keep an eye on things.
  10. Luckily we are retired so the hounds are never left for more than three hours or so and never in the evenings. We do try to leave them alone a couple of mornings a week though, so they will not develop SA and will be able to cope on the odd occasions we are both out at the same time.
  11. My Sonny had a corn on his front right paw, couldn't walk on hard surfaces and held the paw up. Hulling didn't last long and the reports I read on surgery were not encouraging either. I got something called Bazooka Gel from the chemist which people over here(UK) use for verruccas/warts/corns etc. I dabbed this on the corn according to instructions 6 days a week after soaking the paw and rubbed the corn with an emery stick on the seventh day. This went on for weeks with the corn gradually getting smaller until it finally disappeared. Now after almost nine months it has not returned and my boy can walk and run on anything again.
  12. Yes, the crystals are struvite. We have meds from the vet but I was wondering if giving some strength of cranberry caps might help to stop the problem recurring and therefore need advice on what strength to use.
  13. There has often been mention of using cranberry capsules or juice to help dogs suffering from UTI's and crystals. Can anyone who has found this helpful please post what strength of tabs/juice they used as these products seem to come in a wide range of strengths from 50 to 5000mg.? Thanks.
  14. I'm a crate-hater too (UK where it's not so common) so I fuly agree with Jenn8 and jharr. I would try to watch her when she has free run of the house and spend time with her in every area till she catches on to the idea of the whole inside being her 'crate' and learns that all pottying is done outside.
  15. What super news! Hope he continues to do well for a long time to come.
  16. I guess whatever number you can cope comfortably with and afford is right for you. However, if you have one which is badly sleep and space aggressive, even two can be hard work!!
  17. Everything crossed for some good news and easy healing for your precious girl.
  18. Hope your boy is soon completely well again cos that sure does look sore.
  19. Sounds good if it works. What a lot of happy hounds there would be if it does. Having said that, I have put verrucca gel on Sonny's corn for weeks on end and it finally disappeared and he has been corn free for a couple of months or more now.
  20. Have you tried any food based on something other than chicken? Some dogs just don't seem to be able to cope with chicken in any form (even if the body isn't supposed to be able to recognise it as chicken, as you say).
  21. Very best wishes for your girl to feel better soon.
  22. I'm afraid several of mine have had birds, squirrels and rabbits over the years. Now I just leave them to it and don't interfere so the kill is much quicker and cleaner and the prey suffers less.
  23. Poor Whisper, that looks so sore! Very best wishes being sent from over here for a full and speedy recovery.
  24. None of my other breeds over the years has even slept with their eyes open like the greys often do.
  25. I wouldn't hold out any hopes this will stop though I hope it does. One of mine showed no interest in poop until we had the ice and snow and she discovered frozen poopsicles. Now even though they are no longer frozen, she goes searching for any she can find, her own or others in the garden or out on walks. She finds and gobbles quicker than I can shout 'leave it' so I am having to muzzle her every time she goes out of the house.
