  1. I read an article in Celebrating Greyhounds, that someone used Milk of Magnesia (MOM) to close open wound/sores. It was maybe 4 months ago ~
  2. My friend's greyhound went thru this, he was younger at the time, but then lived to 15+ years!!! good luck!
  3. I know my own doggies are in tune with and respond to my attitude and feelings. Try to stay positive for Happy if you can, She will feel it, and hopefully respond to that! come on Happy, feel the love we are sending you!!! Please eat!!!
  4. DON'T GRIEVE TOO LONG Don't grieve too long for now I'm free
I've followed the path God set for me
I ran to Him when I heard His call
I swished my tail and left it all. I could not stay another day
To bark, to love, to romp or play
Games left unplayed must stay that way
I found such peace, it made my day. My parting has left you with a void
Please fill it with remembered joy
A friendship shared, your laugh, a kiss
Oh yes, these things I too shall miss. Be not burdened with times of sorrow
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow
My life's been full, you've given so much
Your time, your love and gentle touch. Perhaps my time seemed all too brief
Don't lengthen it now with undue grief
Lift up your head and share with me
God wanted me, He set me free! ~ Author Unknown ~
  5. I love how the people of GT can tell the exact time of day their dogs hunger increases,, even a little,, I often hear other dog owners talk like they never even look at their doggies! My really old gal is NEVER hungry before 10 am,, then not again until 4 on the dot,, then if i'm lucky she'll eat again before bed.. sometimes wanting food in the tummy before pills go down is tricky, but we make it work! Keep it going Happy!! we are all rooting for you!!! have a ,, (i'm on a pre-holiday diet or I'd join you!)
  6. Happy, we are sending and from our house to you! Please feel better and be a good girl,,, eat some food for your mom!
  7. Sounds like Happy is a happy girl again,,, congratulations,, but quietly, don't want to rock the boat! eat lots, eat well, and poop and poop good! oh, i have gone to a new level of low,, but if it works!
  8. Thinking about you guys ~ How is Happy doing today?
  9. I would think that the Slippery elm will make the poop better, not worse. if you can do the 3 doses today. My old gal is VERY picky and have been thru a lot of what you have, I have never done the plasma or b12.... but getting Darbee-doo to eat can be a real challenge. My heart is with you and hope that Happy will be improving soon!!! Has anyone started A Happy chant yet? come on Happy, eat for your mom and kick this thing i the bud! come on Happy, eat for your mom and kick this thing in the bud! come on Happy, eat for your mom and kick this thing in the bud! come on Happy, eat for your mom and kick this thing in the bud! come on Happy, eat for your mom and kick this thing in the bud! come on Happy, eat for your mom and kick this thing in the bud! come on Happy, eat for your mom and kick this thing in the bud! not as good as some chants, but hope it helps!!
  10. When I mixed up Slippery Elm: HOT tap water. stir until it looks mushy, like baby food,, maybe a bit more runny than baby food. I got a syringe (without the needle) and used that to squirt directly into the mouth, they pretty much have to swallow it then! I could not get them to eat it on the food... didn't smell the greatest to me either. That should do ya,, oh, I gave my boy aprox. 1 or 2 table spoons of the slippery elm mixture, 3 times in one day,, great to heal the everything inside and worked wonders on the Poop issues for my boy! I don't know what a prolonged general dosage should be. I use it for more emergency Poop fix'n.
  11. Yep,, second the slippery elm! I got it from Claudia web site,, and tried it last week with a bout of Big D ~~ it makes the runny stuff into pudding, then helps heal the mucus membranes and continues to help bring the Poop back to real poop! i used a syringe to administer.. my dogs are REALLY picky about what they eat! did you find Tilapia at Costco yet? looks like mine carries it all the time now!
  12. Are they strudy enough so that the toe nails do not poke through? I saw some at Cutter's Mill that did not look any heavier than a surgeon's rubber gloves. I do have some boots from our previous dog. They are heavy rubber. Roger's legs are so skinny that the boots can not be tightened enough to stay on. They are sturdy enough so toe-nails don't poke thru. For WALKING.. i don't know about romping in the yard tho. these are more "cloth" like. that are water resist/tear resistant. You will definitely need the extra velcro to keep them on. oh, i'm going to try to post a picture for you ~~~ hold on ~~ putting picture of booties in C&F
  13. For walking outside: Have you seen these DISPOSABLE booties... "Nooby's Disposable Booties" they look like the covers you'd put on your shoes in a hospital, or at an open house to keep the carpets clean. They have a simple little elastic band, you'd probably have to enforce it with the velcro band,, but these booties are CHEAP! and waterproof, non-skid and throw away! i got them at a funky discount store, so I'm not sure where you will find them Good Luck! eta,,, spelling
  14. I just want to add,,, I saw tilapia at my Costco! call them, or see if you can get it on order.. just a thought good luck!
  15. I'll second the Neo Paws! my boy Rascal wears on his back feet. They are wonderful, and stay on !
  16. what a sweet old gal! I'm very sorry for your loss, and happy for her, that she is now able to run like the wind,,, if she so chooses!!!
  17. :goodluck I hope you see great results!
  18. Is that the name "Fiber caps" or is there a brand name to look for.. I will definitely try them
  19. Thank you all for your responses! I just called in a re-fill for Darbee-doo . I forgot to add that she also gets Probiotics daily, so when the Met pill kills the all the bugs,, at least the good ones can be replenished (hopefully) Darbee is also my REALLY picky eater. she will eat anything once then turn her nose at it. I hate to try too many other foods, even RAW diet just because the only food she eats consistently is Iams chicken. My others are on Taste of the Wild fowl.. she will sometimes eat one meal of TOTW. but never 2 meals! at 14 3/4 ~ she knows what she wants! so all supplements must be in pill form. She's a champion pill "popper" ok,, off to find a good deal on Metronidizole! Thanks again for your help! Lorinda
  20. One of the vets in the office i take my kids too said, "metronidizole is a safe drug,, safe enough to take indefinitely if it helps keep the stools firm" My old gal can have firm poop one day, and the runny squirts the next. I have tried EVERYTHING to regulate her poop.. acupuncture, slippery elm bark, beet pulp, pumpkin, enzymes, changed her food -- this has been going on for over a year.. good one day,, BAD BAD the next. She has been tested for all worms and is fecal always negative, she's been on heart worm medicine for years. Have any of you heard this about Metronidizole? this really surprised me as i've heard very different things from other vets,, like only take for 2 weeks at a time etc...... it is the one thing that does make her poop firm, but once off of it, about a week later we are in the cycle again of runny diarrhea. My Darbee-doo is almost 15 (in feb) and if i will gladly give her a "met" pill everyday if it really is the only thing that keeps her regular. thank you,,, and Darbee-doo thanks you too!
  21. Happy will be happy again in no time! Darbee had tie back surgery at age 13,, she is almost 15 now!
  22. Yes, it is a sign of pain, or discomfort. I don't think it reduces pain, but i don't know for sure about that.
  23. My Darbee-doo had the Tieback Surgery last year, at age 13 1/2,,, she did greyt and has had no complications. I'm sure she would not be around today had we not done the surgery. She's almost 15 now and only has a problem in the summer when it's really hot and she can't cool down. My surgeon is not board certified, but had done the surgery with great success for many years! I love my vet!
  24. My boy Rascal had an FCE episode. Because he is a regular acupuncture patient, my vet did not give the Prednisone. Rascal made a full recovery, although there are times he still looks a bit "drunk" in the back legs. good luck!
  25. I kept booties on the foot while healing from split webbing,, but once the webbing was healed I decided to tape the toe-nails LOOSLY together. I opened up the foot, as if it were in soft sand. decided about where the Max open amount should be, and then taped. I usually only taped the 2 toes, but I eventually got it where I taped all the toes. I gave the flexibility of opening up the foot to grab the sand, but not enough to open too wide and split the webbing again. I think I used athletic tape, cut into small strips. my dog was older and did not do major running around. so it worked for me. good luck
