  3. You know you have all the prayers I have and then some. Up date when you can. Hang in there.
  4. We have this door from Patio Pacific. # 12 size. All of my 7 hounds have used it. Smallest girl 25 inches at the shoulder, largest boy 31 inches at the shoulder. No problems with any of the, We wanted the Endura flap being in the Northeast. Been very happy with this door. Edit to add link. Okey dokey. Google Patio Pacific. Won't let me add a link.
  5. Lovely tribute. Rest well pretty girl.
  6. We are in upstate NY. Dodger seems to have a flea allergy so if I see him start biting / itching everybody gets treated. "If" we are going to have fleas it is generally August / September. This year it was August. We didn't see any fleas either. When I treated Cracker (red fawn) I saw two jump off him and those were the only two I actually saw. We treated all three dogs and both cats with Advantage. My guys are not on monthly treatment either. We don't always get fleas. I washed all bedding in the house and both cars. Vacuumed really well. Nobody is scratching now but I am on alert for tape worms. If I see them we'll treat accordingly.
  7. I am sorry for your loss Heather and Ken. Rest well Matt.

I am so sorry to hear handsome Mike had to leave you Lois. Rest well sweet boy.
  9. Rachel, I have never heard kennel up used anywhere either. Not sure where that one came from. If dogs are responding to it, it is mostly likely the "up" part they are responding to IMHO. Cracker and DD were both bottom kennel dwellers. All I did with both of them to get them to hop into the Range Rover was hold on to the collar as you said, a little trot toward the truck and say "up, up!" with a little tug on the collar. Both of them had it figured out after the first time. All three of them know their names and all three of them have excellent re-call. I use the hand up, palm out for WAIT which they know well. That one they know verbally and just the hand sign. They know "move" and "shut it." I use shut it for DD and his incessant whining. Lastly they know come here with the hand signal I use ( think police officer directing traffic)
  10. Yes do get out of the house! Jan brought up a good point and I would like to clarify. My dogs also have free run of the entire house all day long while we are at work. They have access to their yard via a dog door. No muzzles, no babygates, no crates. We have a cat door in the wall of the dining room so the cats can get to their litter box and food but the dogs can't. The dogs are not left alone with food, ever. Never had a problem but to me that is just common sense. Enjoy your day out and about with your daughter tomorrow.
  11. I think you have an excellent chance of getting another nice, quiet, well behaved hound if you so choose. If all one ever reads here is training and behavior and to a lesser extent food threads, greyhounds sound like a very scary proposition indeed. They aren't. It is just that people who do have problems (real or self inflicted) come here for help / advice / support. I am happily living with greyhound # 7 over a period of 14 years. We have never had: 1) Separation anxiety 2) Space aggression 3) Food aggression 4) Resource guarding 5) Biting incidents 6) Unusual health problems 7) IBD, tick diseases, epilepsy etc 8) Leash reactivity 9) House damage 10) Property damage I am sure there are more but I think you get the point. Some of my dogs came from groups. Some straight from the track sight unseen. Like you, all of my hounds have lived peacefully with indoor / outdoor cats and horses. Like you, we live on a farm. All of my dogs except one lived into their double digits. Pearl passed away from kidney disease months away from her 10th BD. I am so very sorry for your loss. Of course your boy was special! But I bet there is another hound looking for a home you could love just as much. What better way to honor Homer than to extend the offer of his lovely home and family to another hound? I don't think there is one.
