  1. Just got a call from the surgeon saying that Cali's blood pressure may be too high to do the amuputation today. She will be seeing a cardiologist to make the decision on whether to go ahead or not. Poor baby.
  2. Good boy Jamey! Keep getting better. I hope you can find time to relax a bit, too.
  3. Thank you. This helps a lot. Your baby was very handsome.
  4. Cali had a quiet night and is now chomping on her breakfast. Every time she bounces I wince, thinking this will be the time the leg breaks. So far, so good. One more day to keep her quiet.
  5. Here you go. Please, anyone, correct me if I'm wrong.
  6. No, they just gave her some meds in an injection to calm her down. She was actually pretty dopey afterwards.
  7. Thanks everyone. We're trying to keep her pain free with metacam and tramadol.
  8. Poor baby girl is scheduled for an amputation of her right front leg on Tuesday. Looks pretty conclusive to me. Just to show the pretty baby with all her fur on I'm praying that everything goes as planned. Vicky
  9. Thank you for asking this question and for the responses thus far. I can empathize with you as my Cali has just been diagnosed and will spend the weekend with us until I can make a decision on what course of action to take. I'll be thinking of you and hoping for the best.
  10. Certainly strange. I hope you can find out what's wrong.
  11. I agree with what everyone said about the immediate treatment. It sounds like she's in good hands, so I'll add my prayers for a speedy recovery.
  12. Cali had HGE earlier this year. The symptoms were tummy gurgling a couple of days before and then bloody big D. Shortly thereafter bloody vomit and off to the vet we went. She stayed in the vet overnite on fluids and was sent home with flagyl and canned food. She had not recovered from the D even after the meds and food so the vet suggested she was allergic to the food. We tried eliminating every food ingredient we could find until someone suggested to try raw. Since she's been on raw food I've had absolutely no problems with her. It's been speculated that she may not do well on whatever they add to the food during the processing stage of the manufacturing process. I don't care, I just know she's doing well and we haven't had any problems since. Cali's HGE Story Vicky
  13. Joanne and Denis, So sorry to hear of the loss of Onyx. My heart goes out to you. Run free, sweet boy. Vicky
  14. Oh no! My heart breaks for you. Dee was loved by your, your family and so many others through your many amusing anecdotes.
  15. Godspeed Foxy, it was a privilege knowing you and getting to know greyhounds through your letters home. Janet, prayers for you and your family.
  16. Hoping things are going as well as can be expected today.
  17. Cali had a bout with HGE in Feb. She probably would have died had I not taken her to the vet. She had bloody diarrhea as well as bloody vomit. She was extremely lethargic and dehydrated. She stayed in the vet overnight on IV and had lots of tests and everything came back inconclusive. Even after the meds and special vet diet she had diarrhea problems and lost quite a bit of weight. Since then I've found that the only food she doesn't have big D with is raw chicken. I'm going to try more raw meat in the future but so far so good. I hope Nemmie is doing better and there is an actual cause for her symptoms.
  18. Cali is doing better today. I'm at work and the last I saw the mischievous look in her eye is returning. We still haven't had a solid poop, but I'm sure it'll happen soon. She wanted to play with her big brother Vern in the yard this morning, so that's a good sign. I'll post later tonight. She is supposed to have her obedience class tonight but I'll take stand in Vern instead. Vicky
  19. Cali is home! They don't really know what was wrong with her. But are treating for HGE. Her xrays were clear and she's feeling a lot more chipper. She's still sleeping a lot but at least her eyes are more alive looking. I have a hockey sock full of meds and had to make a time table to keep track of them. The food I got from the vet is Medi-Cal Gastro Formula cans and so far it seems to be working. We probably won't have a normal stool for a few days but as long as the colour is right I'm not going to worry about it. Good thing it's the weekend because I have to feed her about 4 times a day. I'll certainly be keeping an eye on her - good thing the e-vet is only 5 minutes away - with a maniac mom driving. In case anyone's interested the meds she's on are: sulcrate plus, metronidazole, baytril and famotidine. Thank you for all your well wishes. Vicky
  20. Heard from the vet and they were going to xray her this morning. Apparently they had a catheter in her to have barium (?) put in to see if there was anything wrong and the little stinker pulled the i.v. line out and they don't know if there's enough barium in her. I'm to go at 3:30 this afternoon and hopefully pick her up. They want her to have some kind of special diet but I'm always leery about vet food as there seems to be a lot of fillers in them. There still isn't anything definitive and I'll mention the HGE (thanks Winterwish) to see what they think. I'll let you all know what's up next. Vicky & Vern, who misses his sister.
