I'm so sorry , she was a sweet dog!
  3. well, hydrogen peroxide probably isn't the best thing to put on them unless you dilute it. I prefer Bandaid Anti bacterial wash - it's got pain reliever in it. But, yeah, if there isn't any skin to stitch together then there's nothing the vet can do that you can't (except clean it out even more). I would probably put some no stick gauze pads and some rolled gauze on (to hold the gauze pad on) then cover it with a baby sock, but other than that I think you're good. Oh, forgot to add, keep an eye on his feet for any infection. If you see that, go to the vet.
  4. Beans was on PPA (generic Proin) for a little while. I only gave him 1/4 tab twice a day - not the recommended 2 tabs!! He took it really well for roughly 2 weeks. Then he started to refuse it. We'd keep him off it for a week, then back on for a while, then refusing it again. This went on for about 2 months. I started thinking that he doesn't refuse ANYTHING (even dried black beans - he tries to eat them) so it can't be good that he's refusing a beef flavored treat. So we decided to just deal with belly bands for the leakage. After a while with the belly bands he completely stopped leaking! If it was my dog, I wouldn't give it again based on what I saw. But, every dog is different and reacts to meds differently.
  5. Good question! I'm wondering if Frosted Mini Wheats are dangerous - since one of my boys ate about 1/4 bag of 'em.
  6. Update! It seems to have resolved itself! YAY! Apparently it was a weird split where the bottom was fatter than the top, so it kind of 'peeled' off without even a blink from the sleeping hound. (he's a drama king, really)
  7. He's not in real pain, just greyhound drama pain. I'll try some superglue and see what happens.
  8. Stoney split one of his back toe nails, not in half but about an 1/8th off the very outside of the nail. It's bleeding (though it seems to have stopped now), but I'm more worried about the split ripping further. Any suggestions? Should I just tape it up? Stoney thanks you for the least painful option to his precious little tootsies!
  9. I'm so sorry . Run free sweetie, run free.
  10. I'm so sorry to hear that Ranger is gone. He was a presence like no other. Run free Ranger boy.
  11. Stoney had a 4x6 patch of them on his chest and several on his rump when he came to us. Poor boy was in such a state! He also had a pretty bad staph infection, so once we got that 100% cleared up I went to town on the black heads. Warm compress and gentle extraction was all he really needed. They've mostly cleared up, but every so often he will get a few on his belly area.
  12. I am so sorry. Ember knew how much she was loved, thank you for sharing her with us.
  13. I'm so glad he's ok! I've done the same thing before, in fact, the other night Beans (who loves the snow) gave me a scare when he didn't come running up the stairs like usual. Turns out he was just sniffing around the grill (probably looking for lost bits of food ) - and man was he unhappy that I made him stop! But he sure did freak me out.
  14. Can he eat cat food? I only ask because when my Shamrock was seriously ill, it was one of the only things we could tempt him with. That might not be too bad for a short while.
  15. Aw geeze! I really hope Koolaid is ok! Please check in when you're able.
  16. Stoney was diagnosed and treated for it before we got him (he was at the kennel for a while) so I don't know what the side effects were. I can tell you that he doesn't really act any different than any other greyhound I've ever met! He's goofy, gets into trouble, loves ear rubbies, has diarreah occassionally (usually coinsides with his counter surfing exploits...) and has not - in general - ever shown any signs of being sick. We will probably re titer him with in the next year or two just to monitor his levels.
  17. It's funny how similar dogs are to cars ... they never make the noises when you're AT the dealer and they never limp or show their 'weird behavior' when your AT the vet's office! I'm glad she's ok though - a little arthritis is pretty normal in big dogs.
  18. Good question. Maybe if she *is* having muscle cramps it's because she's cold? I know that when my feet get too cold, they cramp and THAT makes me want to scream the GSOD! My boys run, bark, growl, roo, 'cry', woof softly, whine and have screamed suddenly during the night - and absolutely nothing is PHYSICALLY wrong with them (though, I can't guarantee that there's nothing MENTALLY wrong with them - crazy knuckleheads!).
  19. Oh poor Monty and you! That looks unpleasant. for Monty's surgery.
  20. Good thoughts from cold northern IL for Wayne's speedy recovery so he can GET OUT OF THE VETS OFFICE .
  21. Congratulations on the adoption of your beautiful brindle boy! It's a tough decision who's more adorable your little boy or your furry boy .
  22. Poor baby! I hope he starts feeling better soon. I hope that no one else in your home gets spider bit.
  23. she's a pretty girl! I hope the surgery works for her . As far as keeping her from licking/biting the area after surgery - can you get a pair of 'bad girl' panties? Or even doggy diapers? That would at least keep her from directly messing with it. I would suggest some article of people clothing - but I have yet to find anything that fits their butts well !
