  1. Baby girl Molly is growing like a weed and she's now finished with her puppy shots. She will be 17 weeks old on Friday. I missed her latest vet appointment (DH took her) so I did not have a chance to discuss when to spay Molly. Before first heat? After? What about spay incontinence...there is such conflicting info out there! HELP! P.S. Pic of Molly - taken about 2 weeks ago sitting with DH:
  2. Oh my goodness, poor thing! Keep us posted!
  3. OK, those who have more experience with this, can you be more specific? My almost 14yo has LP, and I haven't had a dog with LP for almost 10 years so I don't remember much. Back then, my LP girl was on theophylline, but we didn't have too many issues with her and ultimately she went to the bridge because of other issues. My current LP boy is fine unless he's overheated or stressed. When we know there are storms coming through, he gets 2mg of Alprazolam (generic valium), and it does help. But when he has stressful times and has not been drugged, is there anything we can do to help him breathe easier? Diane, do you know how much Elavil and how that is helpful? What was your experience with Trevor, if you can bear to tell me? Devotion, can you share your experience(s) with Avril regarding your liquid valium comment? And regarding the liquid valium and/or rectal valium, can someone "dumb that down" for me? What sort of instanc/what are the signs that you'd need to use such a thing?
  4. Our vet doesn't give us a choice - it's automatically part of a dental and they charge accordingly.
  5. I am so sorry to see this! Phene is in my prayers. Know that he is running pain free now! Sending hugs...
  6. What awesome pics of your beautiful girl, Jey; and they really don't do her justice! Sending you hugs.
  7. Just seeing this now. My fingers are crossed for you and Milky Way. Our Alex went fast (just over 2 weeks from spotting the wrist and noticing limping). Hoping that it's not osteo! Keep us posted.
  8. Never used it, in fact never heard of it till now. Looked on Amazon, and they have it for $18.73! Don't know if that's a good price or not, just thought I'd pass it along as they say list price is more than twice that.
  9. So sorry to hear this, Gil. Godspeed, Tyrone!
  10. What greyt pictures of Tiny! So sorry you had to say goodbye.
  11. Her battle is over, and she knows how much you love her. Sending hugs!
  12. Thinking of you and Tiny, Kristen. We went through the same doubt yesterday. It certainly seems like an impossible decision, doesn't it?
  13. He's gone. The vet was amazed to see how much the tumor grew in the two weeks since we first spotted it. Our hearts are broken. Two osteo deaths in just under 4 months for us.
  14. Oh how we wish this were an April Fool joke, big guy! On the day of my grandmother's funeral, we heard of you - a big beautiful five year old boy whose owner passed away a few days prior. We knew who you were, of course, as we had planned to meet you and talked of adopting you when you originally came to our group two years prior. But you were already spoken for at that time, so we wished you well. When we found out you were in the animal shelter, we offered to take you and some friends jumped through the hoops to get you to us (thanks, Sarah!) We had four years of your charm - hanging out with DH in the bathroom each morning while he showered, letting us know whenever the phone or doorbell was ringing, and showing us your belly! We called you our "eye candy", as your heart always seemed bigger than your brain. You were a beautiful boy, and were popular at meet and greets and anywhere else you could lean into a perfect stranger and pin them down so they'd spend a minute petting you. We had hoped to celebrate your ninth birthday with us! We hate that cancer took you so quickly, but we did not want you to go through prolonged suffering either. It was an agonizing decision for us. Please know that we will always love you and never forget you! You were always convinced you fit fine in the itty bitty kitty bed! Sunbathing, yesterday. P.S. Hope that Buddy and Joe welcomed you and introduced you to the others.
  15. Got the big Arby's roast beef sammich and a Dairy Queen double dish of vanilla all ready for Alex. He is in a lot of pain regardless of being maxxed out on meds, is limping a lot, and the tumor has doubled in size, so we are taking him in tomorrow morning to say goodbye. But first, he gets his extra special yums. And of course we'll continue with our extra attention and love until the end. ♥
  16. Starting dose for our grey Alex (78#) was one 50mg tablet every 12 hours, with a max dose of 2.75 tablets every 6 hours. He is taking that in combo with Rimadyl, one every 12 hours.
  17. For those of you who have used Gabapentin, what was the dosage and where was the best price? My vet doesn't carry it, so they want me to let them know what people pharmacy I want to use. Wondering if it's one of those $5 Walmart-type drugs. I plan to search around this afternoon, but thought maybe someone would know offhand and save me some phone calls! Thanks
  18. Thanks Ellie! So sorry that you're going thru this with Indigo. He's on 75mg of Rimadyl 2x daily. The Tramadol says 1-50mg tablet every 12 hours, but that we can increase to a max of 2.75 tablets every 6 hours. He weighs 78#. Thanks for sharing your experience with Sirocco.
