  1. I am so, so sorry. Lacey Laine was an incredible pup, a fighter, and she was so lucky to have you. You gave her the best years of her life! My thoughts and prayers are with you and Fred :grouphug
  2. I'm so, so sorry. I know how special Barbiejade was to you. She was a real queen. I'm still in shock that she and Lacey Laine are gone. I always considered them the Grand Dames of GT, two very strong, very special ladies. :grouphug Barbiejade was very lucky to have you-- she had the best, most loving mom ever. :grouphug
  3. Here's hoping that it's just a nasty localized infection.... :hope
  4. It's really deep, so working it off w/ a fingernail won't happen. The dremel is a good idea, I may have to get one. (I have a Foredom tool, but that's too big... it's like a dremel on major steroids ) I am looking for a new vet. There actually are only a few w/in reasonable driving distance.
  5. I hate corns. Absolutely hate them. How can something so small and insignificant cause so much damned trouble??!!! Sully has had a corn on his front foot for about a year now. It's been hulled out repeatedly, but the new vet refuses to do it (the vet's office w/ the constantly rotating vets, the ones I like never stay. ) The young vet who left hadn't heard about hulling, but when I printed out the article, he gave it a try and it really helped. So periodically I'd have Sully's corn hulled. Now that the young vet is gone (he's chosen to specialize in orthopedics), the other one (that I do not like) refuses to do it. He's insisting on corn removal surgery or toe amputation, which I'm not gung-ho on, since with the former the corns come back, and I"m not ready to take off the whole toe yet! I hate that he infers that I am a bad/neglectful owner for refusing the surgery. I've tried duct tape, it didn't work. I have considered trying to hull it, but would rather a vet do it. It does give him relief. (and the hulling process doesn't seem to bother him) I just want the damned thing to go away. I hate seeing him limp. He -HATES- the booties, and can get them off, and is generally determined to. ARGh. Any other suggestions in dealing with this corn?? Here's the big corn on the front left paw: (it's as hard as a rock, I can see why it would hurt! When the vet hulled it the first time, he handed me the corn, and it was like a pebble. OUCH!) Another shot. You can see the edges pretty well, and it's easy to feel the difference in the corn tissue vs. the surrounding soft pad. Unfortunately, he's developing a second corn on his hind foot. It's much smaller, but still, this just sucks!! Does anyone know of a decent vet in my area? (northeastern corner of MD?) Baltimore is too far-- the soonest I could get down there after work would be nearly 8 p.m. I feel weird calling up vets or just randomly walking in and asking questions. I know I'm not likely to find a grey savvy vet, but a good vet that's willing to try new things or learn would be awesome.
  6. Dark and stinky can mean UTI. When D has had them, he can't hold it, and the pee is FUNKY smelling and darker than normal . The only time he's ever peed in the house was with a UTI. He just stood up and started peeing -- totally not like him, he's one to always ask to go out if he needs it. Poor boy had to keep going out every couple of hours till the antibiotics kicked in, and you could tell he really didn't feel well. To really be sure, a culture would need to be done, but with him having trouble holding, and it being dark and stinky, I'd probably insist on a course of antibiotics. UTI's don't always show up in tests right away, esp. if a culture wasn't done.
  7. Deer Secret Santa, I got a reel nice pressie in today. I couldn't open it till mom came home, and she was late cuz of this white stuff fallin'! Sully and I made all kinds of noise, but dad wouldn't let us open it. Mom finally got home, and I got to open my pressie! I LOVE it!! 'Specially the treats and da MONKEY!! Mom's laughin' cuz I'm carryin' it everywhere I go. Even out to potty. but I lubs my new monkey woobie. Tanks! D. PS Dem treats is real tasty too! Mom says tanks for all the other goodies, she really like the ornament for the tree thingy I wish I could pee on. (Why else would u have a tree in da house???) And she loves da chocolate, but she won't share it with me!! Anyway, tanks sooooooo much!!! D.
  8. Oh, poor Katie! I was hoping that she'd be feeling better this morning. I would definitely make it clear to the vet that she is in a -lot- of pain and that the current pain management isn't cutting it. (even if it means being forceful about it) Katie is such a lucky girl to have you. Keeping you both in my thoughts. I really hope she starts to feel better and heal quickly! :grouphug :hope
  9. Sending prayers for you and Mia Bella!! :grouphug :hope
  10. Sully, Diesel and Sebau say thank you very much for all the yummy treats!!!
  11. Many years ago, our little poodle, Bridget, fell off the bed and broke her lower jaw when she hit the floor (hardwood floor vs. small geriatric toy poodle was not a good mix) She did lose some teeth, but the vet xrayed her, found the break, and went in and wired it (under anaesthesia). She ate a diet of baby food for a couple of months. She had to have something she could lick up. We never had to do intranasal feeding, she kept weight on just fine with different baby foods (lots of meat ones) and actually once she was healed became quite a picky little Diva about food!! (she wanted the good stuff back!)
  12. I haven't used previcox on any of my pups yet, but it is good that there are now options other than just the traditional NSAIDS. Previcox is a COX-2 inhibitor, like Celecoxib (Celebrex that is prescribed for humans). (another example of the same class is Bextra) Here's a good link with some info on Previcox. Previcox info
  13. Diesel had a huge mass of those when he came in as a foster. They were blackheads. BLECH! Warm compresses, some squeezing, and cleaning w/ astringent, and he's been blackhead free for over a year now. (we've had him for two years, it took a while to get rid of them)
  14. :grouphug I'm there with Sebau right now too. Getting old does suck.
  15. Two of mine have taken it (Sebau twice post op, and another time for an injury) and both handled it well. It seems to work much better for them for pain than some of the NSAIDS have. The Tramadol made Sebau much more comfortable after her surgery compared to rimadyl.
  16. I don't have any advice, but I'm sending you and Katie lots of good thoughts and prayers!
  17. I know my pups have been absolutely spoiled-- I don't mind if there aren't any 'human' items, since it's really about the dogs. Besides, it's always a blast to see the dogs have fun with their secret santa gifts! I usually try to send things like a collar, a stuffie or two, some treats, etc. It in part depends on what I find. If I am sending to someone far away, I might try to add in something 'local', but sometimes I'm sending an item one state over, so then the "local" is a moot point. I also usually hope to get someone who has signed up only one or two pups... it's really hard to find the time to make 6 extra collars! But I also wouldn't want to send just one and leave everyone out, so when that's happened, I've done my best to make sure everyone gets one! One year I got sick and didn't have time, and it was Burpdog to the rescue, I did a couple of her gift baskets with the stuffy. This year is super easy-- all single hounds signed up, and one is a Hound + Kitty, so I get to go kitty toy shopping for the first time!
  18. Thinking of you and Peatie this morning. I'm hoping he was just feeling lousy right then. I hope they get the labs in and he gets started on meds asap! :hope Hugs to you both! :grouphug
  19. Sully says thank you soooo much for the yummy bone and cute stocking with the squeaky bone! He even shared the bone with Diesel and Sebau. They say thanks too! It certainly worked as a teaser gift... now he thinks that every package I get is HIS! :lol (this time of year I open packages with a full audience, hoping there is something in there for them! )
  20. Well, I'm at work, so you have to wait on most of the measurement stuff. How long is his tail? 26" How long is his nose? How long is his back? How long are his legs? What is his neck measurement? Average GH size. Normal adj. collars fit. How round is his chest? it's FLAT! Deep, but not at all barrel chested What color are his eyes? Light fawn colored, the same as his coat (see my siggy, that's Sully) What color are your eyes? dark brown What is his favorite color(s)? Lavender What is your favorite color(s)? Blue What is your favorite season? Summer Do you like snow? Yes Does Sully like snow? No Does Sully like rain? Absolutely NOT! Does he like coats? PJs? T-shirts? Pants? He loves to wear PJ's and T-shirts, though he doesn't like the 4 legged ones. (usually get the ones with the front legs in them, but not the hind legs) If Sully was a flower, what would he be (and you can't say an orchid! )? Well, he's as much a diva as a cattleya (yes, it's an orchid... so otherwise, I'd guess a rose?? Do you use your turn signals? yes Do you like green eggs and ham? no- don't like ham What is your favorite snack? cheese (the food!...though the other cheese is good too ) What is Sully's favorite snack? ANYTHING! Do you carry a purse? or a bag? purse What is Sully's gotcha day? 6/03 What does Sully want to be when he grows up? A professional thief Is Sully a bad boy? or a good boy? Mostly good, with an onery thieving streak..... Does Sully like fruit? Veggies? If so, which ones? No, he won't eat fruit or veggies Edited to add pics: Sully and Sebau snuggling (yes, he always sleeps with his eyes and mouth open) Playing with Diesel (while the GH was being built, and yes, those bat ears are straight up about 70% of the time) Being beautiful....
  21. Since it was milk chocolate, and also both candies only have a chocolate coating, he should be ok-- the total chocolate should be within the safe range. My guys did in a HUGE bag of milk chocolate Hershey's Kisses a couple years back.. Had me panicking and looking up the toxicity... found out they'd be ok, even if only one had eaten it (Sebau had gotten most of it.. not surprising, since the others will NOT challenge her... we guessed that Sully got the chocolate, got into it, and Sebau bossed everyone out of the way ) We didn't even have gas or upset tummies... just lots of sparkley foil poops. And Mr. Murphy... stop the counter surfing dude!!! (Sully says "yeah man, congrats on the loot, go for it again! I just swiped mom's burrito, it was YUMMY!" )
  22. :grouphug You and Peatie are in my thoughts and prayers Trish. I still just can't believe it., don't want to believe it.
