  1. I think it is more a question of apporpriate food source rather than useless. I certainly seems to help older horses keep weight on but...my dogs aren't horses. Now I think its time to post the story of the squirrel and the beet pulp... The Squirrel and the Beet Pulp I LOVE that story!!!! :lol I've thought about picking up a bag of it at our feed store, but they only have the beet pulp w/ added molasses. And only in 50 lb bags! I don't need THAT much beet pulp!
  2. Cancer happens-- young or old, just as with people. Had one of my 7th grader students this year diagnosed w/a brain tumor... docs removed it, and it was malignant. Cancer sucks. Period.
  3. :grouphug I'm glad today was a better day! It's never easy when they age. It's just not fair that they have so little time here.
  4. Wonderful!!! :pepper Sending more prayers that Alan continues to improve!! :hope
  5. I'm so so sorry. :grouphug :f_red Run free sweet Teddy.
  6. We went through this with a foster, and he ended up needing more of his tail taken off. (total of 3 surgeries. Thank doG the last one healed finally!) For him part of the issue may have been a weakened immune system from the tail having been horribly infected (he came in off the hauler like that, it was an old injury) Ace may need more of her tail amputated, like my foster did. They didn't take a lot more off, just enough to get to good healthy tissue that had a better chance of healing. Hopefully she doesn't. Keeping Ace in my thoughts!
  7. You should be able to give them together-- used them together for Sebau after her surgery last summer. Of the two, the tramadol seemed to work best for her. Usually the tramadol pills are 50mg, and it's safe to give one. (amp and cancer pups I've read of getting much higher doses)
  8. I'm so happy she's home!!! Continued prayers that she keeps on feeling better! :hope
  9. I'm so sorry! I"m sending more prayers for Mia! I hope she feels better soon! What dosage of Doxy do they have Mia on? Sebau was on 600 mg/day of doxy for her lyme, and it took a dose that high to really have an effect. (she was a bit chunky at the time, at 65 pounds)
  10. I'm so so sorry. :grouphug Godspeed, sweet Skittle.
  11. OMG!! I'm so, so sorry. :( It's just not fair. :( :grouphug

  15. DeVon, sending tons of prayers, hugs and good thoughts to you and Skittle!! :grouphug :hope
  16. 78 in the day, 74 at night. I'd keep it a bit warmer (low 80's), but DH can't take it... We keep it at 74 in winter too (that one's me). I really hate being cold....
  17. Somehow I missed this thread! I'm so glad he's heading home and doing better! :pepper Sending prayers that he keeps feeling better!!!
  18. The pictures on the corn hulling how to look exactly like Sully's corn-- just about the same spot too . What amazed me was how HARD the core is!!! OMG, it's like a pebble! No wonder it hurts to walk on!! If you got pus, I guess a corn -could-get infected, but I'd be more likely to think foreign object. Sully's corn doesn't bleed, ooze or anything. It is dry and rock hard. There is a definite defined border. When it comes out, there's a heck of a hole in the pad, but no blood.
  19. Our appointment is for Thursday. It's the first evening appointment that is available. He's still a bit stiff, but gave the squirrels a good chase, and invited himself into the bathroom, lifted the seat, and got himself a nice drink. ( Yes, he has a FULL bowl of fresh water downstairs... for some reason he just prefers the toilet Because of that, we are really careful what it's cleaned with) He also ran off with the whole bag of Baa baa q's last night (I got them before he had too many ) And for those of you that wonder, yes, if he's not right next to me, that generally means he's trying to steal something. He's always busy.
  20. I'm so, so sorry. :grouphug
  21. No news. Vet's office isn't open until Monday. He's no worse, but not any better. He's still eating and drinking and pooping just fine (he darned near stole our lasagna dinner! (well he DID manage to steal some of it... ), he's just not quite right. First thing Monday morning I'll call the vet and get an appointment. Most likely I know it won't be anything and I'll just be the overly concerned pet owner... but I'd still rather go. All three pups are sacked out with me in the computer room like usual. He hasn't had a full tick panel, and that's something I think I need to get, even just for peace of mind in the future.
  22. My love sponge isn't feeling well. He's still pretty much himself, but something isn't quite right. He's not as onery as usual, he seems to be more lethargic, stiffer, and needier than normal. Also, (and I know this sounds weird) he doesn't smell right-- body or breath. Just not... -right-. Not like a "big honkin' abcess" smell.. just off... just like the rest of him. He's still active enough for a grey, but not right for him... he's not quite moving like he should, his gait is off... (yes, I'll do a Lyme check, since it's so incredibly prevalent here, and yes, we Frontline plus monthly, mainly for ticks) No dietary changes, nothing out of the usual. I'll be calling the vet Monday morning (I SO wish they had weekend hours ) to get an appointment. All he really wants to do is curl up with me, even more than normal.
