  1. question - and I hope I'm not hijacking but that the OP might also want to know the answer to this question. I, too, am new to the corn dog club. My vet originally used the medical sharp the poster above described but I've noticed that Livs still often favors that foot so I'm guessing it is coming back. I've read several people mention the term "hull" it but I have no idea what that means. How do you go about "hulling" it?
  2. Congratuations! I went through the same waiting a year ago...it's so exciting! But the stalking doesn't end... It led me to #2...and the stalking doesn't end. I somehow fall in love with all of them and want to see them go to their forever homes.
  3. That was, um, an interesting read. Now I know everything I need to know about olives. I think I, too, will stick with the girls now, OpalsMom.
  4. Welcome, Carlos! I understand how you feel about the cat... Don't worry, just run right over it just like my Livy does...tromp! tromp! tromp! Sounds like you fit in here with this bunch of greyhound-fiends!
  5. Welcome! What an amazing critter family you have -- all three are gorgeous! I love the coloring of your TB. I've got a roaching cat, too. It's really funny when the dog and cat are roaching at the same time. I was just noticing the other night that my cat roaches a lot more than she did before Olivia (my grey) came to live with us a year ago.
  6. Where do you get the necks? My local store doesn't have them.
  7. This. Be prepared for it! yup, and if they don't then i would be concerned. remember ARGOS from the oddesy??? he never forgot homer! Unfortunately, I believe he died after he greeted his master. But perhaps I shouldn't mention that....
  8. I adopted Olivia (my first dog ever) in December. She's been pretty much a perfect dog. She had a learning curve about some of the house rules and it took about 6-8 months for her personality to really begin to show itself. It probably still is, slowly, bit by bit. Can't answer about the boy marking -- but she's never marked in the house. She likes to on walks, though. I quickly stopped crating her, despite what everything I read about crating being good. She hated it. During work, she stays in kitchen (tile floor) with a baby gate up. She quickly learned it's her routine and often goes there without being asked now when we leave. She's not a space guardian. Early on she did snap at my husband once when she must have dozed off while he was petting her and then sleep startled. Has never happened again. We learned quickly and so did she, too. Not a spook at all. Prefers calm and quiet to loud and noisy, though. She has never growled at anybody...or dog, either, I believe. She chastised a puppy once at the dog park but she generally stays away from crazy dog situations. She doesn't like the crazy, excited, yippy doggy behavior. She's kind of a greyhound snob. She's been very patient and tolerant of small children she's met when she's been out and about. Most of them have been very gentle and respectful -- clearly have been taught about how to treat dogs -- some of the kids I could tell she really liked, others she was just patient and calm and let them pet her even though she didn't feel a "connection." In many ways, I feel my adoption group found me the "typical" perfect first dog/greyhound. She was fostered for a month or so before she came to me and adjusted like she'd always been here. And she never once tried to eat my cat, which was my #1 requirement for the group when helping me choose my girl!

What a wonderful boy. He was so lucky to have you and you to have him. I wish my allergies wouldn't act up so much when I read these tributes... :f_white
  10. Run free, Anubis, with all of your other bridge buddies! Watch over your mom and dad and help give comfort to their hearts.
  11. As a side note... In college my roommie had a dog and we had a plum tree in the back. Although the fruit wasn't toxic to the dog, the after effects were toxic to the air in our little house. Bad!
  12. Oh Mandy, you beautiful little girl. Your momma loves you and knows you love her. I hope you find peace and comfort.
  13. Good girl, Tessa! You were so helpful to leave a sample for the vet without even being asked. I hope you get feeling better soon!
  14. Congratulations! What an awesome greyhound & doggy family! They look so happy.
  15. I'm so sorry Greg. Bijou will be missed but will continue to live on in your heart. I know that she is romping painlessly in the fields and watching over you.
  16. Thank you to the OP for asking this question! It's one I've had but I've never heard a lot of complaining on this forum about males marking in the house. When I adopted Olivia my husband's requirement for a girl was due to a worry about the males marking, partially in response to his male cat who had a tendency to mark and a neighbor's male cat who regularly marks our front door (arrgh!). This is good info to know because someday I hope to get a sibling for my girl!
  17. Congratuations! I am still a fairly new owner myself...isn't it wonderful to have found such a perfect four-legged friend? As you get to know each other better, you will begin to understand all of the things Dillon is saying to you in doggy-speak. It amazes me how much Olivia "talks" to me as I begin to learn more about her and her about me.
  18. Congratulations! I see you got some wild ones! They look like happy pups.
  19. Oh, Greg, I'm so sorry. That sweet little girl loves you and is happy to have given you -- and will still give you -- so many happy memories. Give her love and hugs from me and Olivia.
  20. It's seemed to help my girl, too. Very gassy when she first came home -- yikes! -- but the yogurt seems to work. Like the others, I add a spoonful to each meal and mix it up. She licks it up before going to town on the kibble.
  21. I hope you post lots of pictures of your beautiful guy. I don't think I could ever get enough of admiring his beautiful snowflakes.
