  1. basically in the middle of it, this past week. He doesn't cry when he eats dinner, only breakfast.
  2. I'm glad she's acting fine - i can't believe how huge her face/muzzle is. She really does look like a bull terrier - and poor thing must be so uncomfortable, too. I hope she recovers soon! Give her kisses from Walter & I - we'll miss you guys tomorrow.
  3. About a month ago I switched Walter to Taste of the Wild because I thought he had a grain allergy. Previously to this switch, he would eat as soon as the food was set down and eat ALL of his food before drinking water and laying down. Since he was on TotW, he ate about half of his food, drinks and then lays down only to finish his meal later. I assume he did not like TofW because he LOVES grains (bread especially) and perhaps this was how he was adjusting to eating a less appetizing food. I put him back on Acana (which he LOVES) and he's still displaying the same behavior - eats about half, drinks water, walks away. I've also noticed the past few days that he cries when he's done. I'm starting to suspect something else is going on. Originally I would leave the left over food in his dish so that he could eat it when he was ready - now I'm picking up his bowl after ten minutes because I do not want him to free feed. I should also mention the last week here was really crazy with Sandy, not having heat, sleeping over someone else's house and general low air pressure stuff which he did not seem to be very pleased about.
  4. Omg I hope she is ok, she looks miserable. I hope you weathered the storm well - we ended up at a friends house only to get power back today. I realy hope she heals quickly I cant imagine dealing with the stress of a cat bite/scratch and stupid sandy
  5. I've noticed that walter chatters when he licks grass or attempts to lick the grass on walks. Whats up with that?
  6. Yes, Walter gets breakfast and dinner and sometimes an afterschool snack of yogurt or pumpkin.
  7. It was Rico's Abel, he's a brindle boy that is very fresh off the track. So fresh that they said I would have to house train him.
  8. I was at Greyhound Friends of NJ greyhound picnic today and I met a very cute, calm brindle boy who is slightly taller and longer than Walter. He seems really nice, and I was asked to foster him... I've had Walter for about a year and a half now and I do want to get a second grey. When did you know you were ready for a second? How soon after you adopted your first did you bring in a second? How does fostering affect the dogs you have? Is fostering difficult - physically? emotionally? When the fostered dog is adopted, how did your other hounds react? Anything that you wished you knew before you brought in a second hound or fostered?
  9. He eats out of stainless steel. I randomly leave his muzzle on when I am at work (about 7 hours) some days I leave it on, some days I don't. I've noticed the itchy-ness regardless, and it seems like he is the most itchy when he's had his muzzle on all day. It is as if he can't get the right spot until the muzzle comes off. To be honest, I've never noticed if he is better in the a/c or not. I'm wondering if maybe he is allergic to pollen/ragweed since he was originally a Southern dog(he raced in Alabama/Florida, etc) before we was relocated to NJ with me. I would imagine that prison is cleaner since it is all concrete and no drapes... When I first brought him home I joked that I had to be careful around him because he might shank me.
  10. I'm not positive, but the research I've done points toward a food allergy since he is only itchy on his face/nose/lips. I vaccuum weekly, I wash his bedding in detergent that is free & clear of dyes and perfumes. I mean, he could be allergic to NJ I guess?
  11. I've had Walter for about a year and a half now. He was fostered in a prison, and the prisoner noted several times that Walter LOVES having his chin scratched and it always seems to be itchy. He came to me on Purina Pro Plan and I changed him to Orijen (http://www.orijen.ca/) because I wanted him to be on a better quality dog food. After a few months on Orijen, a bout with worms and way too many mushy poos, I switched him to Acana (http://www.acana.com/products) which had less protein, so I thought his poos would get better. They did(not perfect but definitely better). For about the past year he has been on the Classic and Regional varieties of Acana. He is rubbing part of his lip fuzz off, he rubs his nose so hard that he gives himself rug burn and I muzzle him when I leave for work because I don't want his scratching/rubbing while I'm gone. Now I have him on Acana Singles, which is a single source protein food. I want him to be on a good, quality food, but I don't want him to constantly be so itchy. I'm not sure what else to do.
  12. I don't really understand why I can't upload an avatar picture

  13. Welcome! Congrads! Both dogs are so handsome! (Snakes are scary)
  14. Yes I have Walter get it annually but I was told there was not a 3 year vaccine available. I'm always concerned about him and his health and I do wonder if he could go without partcular vaccines because he still has immunity.
  15. Once a week on our walks. Walter enjoys munching on grass and he will eat it if I'm not on top of him or in a "grab and go" snack on walks. We did go to the picnic, we both had a great time!
  16. It's regular poo with a small amount of blood on the outside.
  17. where can you get this from? edited to add: how is it different from locally made honey? or packaged honey (from major food stores)?
  18. Last summer, Walter had worms, and at the end of July had several bowel movments with blood in them. At the time, it was very hot, and the vet said "sometimes when dogs are hot, they tend to pass blood." I took him to Northstart Vets (http://northstarvets.com/) and he got fluid for dehydration and a few other items. Today, when Walter pooped, I noticed a small amount of blood in his stool. I'm worried again - the worms have been resolved but why do greys (or dogs in general) pass blood? What does it mean? How serious is it?:
  19. trying to change my avatar picture!

  20. I noticed that Walter's scars get darker in the summer - should I use sunscreen on him? Do you use sunscreen on your grey? Where - and why?
  21. I feed Walter Acana which is a sister product of Orijen. Both are made in Canada. I like them, my boyfriend researched them and approved, in his opinion its one of the best dog foods on the market. edited for website: http://www.orijen.ca/
  22. http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=12251148&lmdn=Category I have something similar to that, basically it is an elevated feeder and food storage in one. It's plastic, and the top holds the bowls (similar to this one). It doesn't have wheels, and I've never seen the one I bought since it holds two 14kg bags, or 1 28kg bag.
  23. My boyfriend & I recently purchased some meat which ended up in the back of the fridge (I am forgetful ) and we had the same discussion - we tossed it. better to be safe than sorry.
  24. Yes, it'll be great to finally meet you!
