  1. Thank you soooo much! The dogs LOVE them and LOVE me right now! I've never cooked meat before on femur bones, I just wanted to make sure. I have chicken feet waiting for them too!
  2. Let me preface this by saying: 1)I'm a turkey neck virgin and 2) I thought they were like rawhides or femur bones (they eat the meat and leave the bone) So, I brought them home and gave it the hounds raw and they ate the WHOLE THING in seconds. Should I have cooked it? What were the bone things they were crunching on? Is it going to hurt them? They're quite pleased and looking for more and Im freaking out and ready to call the e-vet. Thanks!
  3. Mason is the worst mooch ever! He's been very lethargic and blah with this last bout of worms (that I treated a week ago). Today he tried climbing on me to get my breakfast. I'm so happy he's peeking up and trying to steal my food! I think he might be on the road to recovery. We have one more dose of Stognid Monday so hopefully that will do the trick. Damn worms....
  4. I called and Valli Produce have them so we're going to try them. Thank you to everyone for their advice and help. Molly and Mason will be enjoying them on the deck! They thank you too (probably more than I do ).
  5. I keep seeing all these posts about chicken feet and turkey necks. Where does everyone get them from? Now that it's nice out I might consider letting the hounds snack on them on the deck! . Thanks for your help!
  6. It's Strongid! Thanks. I knew it had a more official name than "the yellow stuff"! So I should call the vet and ask to repeat it weekly for 6 weeks? At this point I'll try anything.
  7. I'm so sorry to hear about your furbaby. Please let us know how the surgery goes. He is one good looking boy!
  8. They're hookworms. They both had Panacur with the rescue group, we did the yellow liquid (I forgot the name) dewormer in March and we're doing it again now (so every 3 months). Molly came in December and I have to assume she had worms--I got her basically right off the track. She was only in the kennel with the rescue group for less than a week when I fell in love and took her home. We did Panacur then. Honestly, I wasn't that concerned today because I understand they come from the track and it's just assumed they have them. As long as I'm dilligent (and I am) with Heartguard and Frontline it's just kind of an "is" with track Greys. The vets office sort of made it seem like a big deal. I just wanted to check in with others and see what you all thought.
  9. We just got back from the vet...Mason has worms AGAIN! This is the second time he has worms since March (Molly as well). Molly had worms when she came to me in December and shared the joy. I regularly do HeartGuard and Frontline and don't have a yard (I leash walk and clean up the poop each and every time). Is there something else I should be doing to prevent this? How concerned should I be about this? Any advice is much appreciated. Thanks!
  10. Good luck. I went through bloat with my first Grey; it's no fun. Please let us know how it goes.
  11. So Molly donated blood last for the 2nd time and she was a champ! She was so good in fact, that the vet had to carry her out because she didn't want to leave! She got tons of attention, wet food and the cutest bandage that was pink with purple hearts! I stopped for McDonald's ice cream later for both dogs later (Mason isn't ready to donate yet...there are men there ). Plus, she helped save another dog's life. All in all Molly would say it was a good night.
  12. I have to walk mine as I don't have a yard. We go out 3 times a day for 10-20 minutes to potty. On top of that we walk the hiking trail which is about 2 miles a few times a week. We also go to the dog park (I know how people feel but in my town it is not used because most people have yards and I go at off times). I'm really working to lose weight and the dogs are along for the ride! I agree that I have bonded quicker and more strongly with my hounds because we walk together so much.
  13. Molly is a blood donor--she thinks it's the best thing ever! She gets treats, attention, and wet food! What's not to like? Seriously, we go to the emergency vet in town. We went in the first time so they could do the blood tests to make sure she was healthy, etc and type her. She is NOT a universal donor so they only use platelets. She went in, donated, came out with the world's cutest bandage and then got McDonald's ice cream as a treat. Like humans they can donate every 3 months-she's actually due to go back in the next week or so. Like PP I really like knowing she's helping another dog and because we're in town she's helping a dog in our town.
  14. I'm curious as well. I switched mine to Pro Plan Sensitive Stomach and while I have FINALLY seen solid poop from them they're shedding like crazy and both their coats look terrible so I think it might be time to look at another food. It makes me sad because I love the ProPlan and I really love the sollid poop. I tried Costco but they didn't do great on it and I opened a bag and found ants and twigs in the bag-kind of put me off it! I'm hearing good things from Fromm's but it's REALLY expensive.
  15. It turns out that it was the pad; it's swollen and inflammed. The vet thinks there's an infection of some sort in there. He also has a low grade fever. She gave him Cefalexan (I'm sure I spelled it wrong), a broad spectrum antibiotic for 10 days. I'm so glad I took one look at his pathetic face and glazed eyes this morning and didn't wait. Hearing he had a fever freaked me out a little.
  16. He's still limping...so painful to watch but eating, drinking, pooling, pooping, peeing, and, most importantly, taking treats! I tend to overreact with these things and will probably call the vet today rather than wait. I'd rather get in and have it be nothing than wait and have it be something. They're used to me!
  17. We went for a lovely walk this afternoon and now Mason is limping (front right leg). I checked and it's not noticably swollen, no corns and he's letting me manipulate it with no indication of pain. I told him he had 48 hours to solve the problem on his own or we go to the doctor and the doctor we would see for this is an M-A-N (he's afraid of men)! Any other ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
  18. Molly is 76 pounds and she eats about 3 1/2-4 cups/day. I free feed so I can't tell you the exact amount; it depends on her royal highnesses mood. She keeps herself at a perfect weight though so it's working. I have to say that 2 cups doesn't sound like a lot-I would increase 1/2 cup/day and see what happens.
  19. My vet told me that the lower grade chocolates weren't the concern; it was the "good chocolate"; anything with 85% or higher cocoa that was a concern. Since he's so big and ate so little I wouldn't worry (although he may have some loose poop for a few days ). FWIW: I agree, he has VERY good taste!
  20. I may be new here but I don't think anyone needs to ask who runs the house....it isn't me.
  21. I love my Molly May but every night at 8:00 she starts barking incessantly and for no apparent reason. Rawhides shut her up but I don't like giving them to her all the time. We walk 3 times a day plus extra walks and dog park visits on the weekends. She free feeds so hunger isn't the problem. I think she just wants attention, etc. Tonight I let her "bark it out" but I'm SOOO worried my neighbors are going to complain. Any ideas? FWIW: The smart girl has realized throughout the night that I'm ignoring her and her barking fits are getting shorter each time. Thank you for any help you can give me.
  22. It's a funny thing, but many greyhounds scream blue murder at nothing and yet won't tell you when they seriously hurt over a long period of time. (I'm trying to quote for the first time so I hope it works). This...my Bliss was like this! She would scream bloody murder if you pet her wrong or bumped into her, BUT she fell out of the car and rolled down the driveway and jumped up without a sound (I screamed bloody murder). She got cut on the ice at the dog park and kept running! This was a regular thing with her. I learned if she cried to ignore it, but if something happened and she was quiet, I was worried. They're athletes first and foremost and they act like it. Don't beat yourself up about not recognizing his discomfort-he didn't want you to!
  23. I've had to give Panacur and I use baby food (it's amazing what you can get the dogs to eat when you mix it in baby food ). The vet recommended it because it's easy on their stomach and tasty. My 2 have glass stomachs like you wouldn't believe and it doesn't bother them. I get stage 2 chicken or turkey and split the jar between them.
