  1. Ugh, I had 3 cans of tuna they've been dieing for. I should have fed them that. They would have loved me forever. Well, I bolted out of school yesterday and bought them food. Molly slept with me all night and Mason slept in the dog bed yesterday. Everyone is happy and healthy and I survived my first week back at schoo. Thanks for the great food advice and support. It's good to know I haven't emotionally scarred them forever!
  2. Tha I you for not making me feel like a horrible mother. I had 1/4 of a bag of Annamaet so they got that. Horrible gas but happy dogs. They would have liked McD's better.
  3. What's similar to Fromm's? I gave them each a jar of baby food and a food pieces of cheese. We'll do it again tomorrow morning.
  4. It's been a horrible first week back at school and I ran out of dog food. They were fine yesterday but they're basically out today. Of course, I will go right after school tomorrow. I have some ground beef that's been in the fridge since Tuesday (?). Should I make that for them or will they be ok until tomorrow afternoon? Yes, I know, world's worst Greymom. TIA- GG
  5. Welcome Jenna and your handsome boy. I can see why you're in love with him, he's adorable. I look forward to seeing more posts from you about his antics (and I have a feeling there will be many ).
  6. Thanks. I will call now and change it. Plus, next Monday is the first day of school so I wasn't crazy about doing it then anyway.
  7. We have a follow up appointment in a week or sooner if I think there's an issue. She's fairly heavily medicated right now to manage pain.
  8. Molly fractured a bone in her foot. She's going to be in a splint for a minimum of 6 weeks. She will need to be leash walked (so glad I just moved into a house with a nice, big yard) and minimum activity. I'm certain I'm more upset than her.
  9. Congrats on your newest additions! Mine have had worms as well. A quick call to the vet for meds will take care of that. I would recommend if you treat one, treat the other just in case (they do like to share ). I've had some Greys eat grass and keep it down, others eat it and vomit and others ignore it. My vet told me it was like lettuce for us. As long as they're keeping it down it's not a problem. My Molly has just recently started eating grass but as long as I'm not cleaning up vomit (and I'm not) I'm pretty ok with it! I don't know anything about the food you're feeding, but I'm not a food snob; my feeling is if they're happy, healthy and have firm poop it's fine. Enjoy youre new furbabies!
  10. We went to our fun run and Molly tweaked her wrist (well, what would be our writst) on her front paw. She was favoring it so I put her in a crate to rest. It's noticeably swollen and she won't put any weight on it. I tried icing it and it's the first time she gave any indication of pain. It does NOT look good and she looks miserable. She wouldn't even get up for attention from the woman at the drive-thru window! Any advice would be much appreciated. She's in a crate now to avoid movement (although she's so tired and unhappy it's probably not necessary). TIA- GG (and Molly)
  11. I had Dart for 5 years and never once saw him run. We would go to the dog park and people would be all excited because they thought they were going to see a Greyhound run. What they saw a Greyhound do was pee EVERYWHERE and then lay under a tree and sleep (yes, he slept at the dog park, he was that laid back). Molly will run and run and run and run to people for petting and attention. After that she will deign to run, if she feels like it. Mason will...stand next to me. He's a mama's boy.
  12. My first experience with greys was a greyhound/lab mix and if I knew then what I know now...It's amazing nothing horrible happened. I'm so lucky. I did take her to a trainer and he never ONCE made me feel the way you're feeling. I agree with the others, it's time to start looking for a new trainer. As a teacher, I would never allow a student to feel the way you're feeling and make no mistake, you ARE a student. Please be proud of both Ami's and your accomplishments. While I haven't commented on your posts I have read them and I know how hard you've worked with her. She has come a long way thanks, in no small part, to your love and dedication to her. You will be amazed at the change you see in her over the next month, 6 months, year, 5 years, etc. It will be a joy for you to experience. In the meantime find a trainer that meets your needs and Ami's. If you're not happy and comfortable she won't be either! This is for both of you.
  13. I bought them for mine and they liked them for about 10 minutes and then not so much. I thought they would be great since Molly's a hard chewer and I saw them at a pet expo but she really wanted nothing to do with them. I bought it at a pet specialty store. She really likes rawhides so I get the ones that are made in America. I also will sometimes get tracheas and they LOVE those but don't digest them so well.
  14. I would say another few pounds, maybe 77 or 78. Just a guess based on what you've said and the picture. I'm curious as to what others think.
  15. So, as much as I LOVE Annamaet, the dogs didn't do so well on it. Mason has horrible poop and Molly started eating grass; something she has never done previously. Clearly she's missing something. So, off we go in search of something else (have I mentioned that dealing with food is my least favorite part of dog ownership?). Someone recommended Fromm's so we're trying it. They scarfed it down when I put a handful in my hand, the bites are small so no choking, good ingredients and it's salmon which Mason has done well on in the past. Fingers crossed. I asked about Acana but they don't carry it. That was really my first choice.
  16. I have to walk mine because we don't have a yard and they do fine (although I do have pull Mason as he lags behind). But Mason does not enjoy long walks and I don't force him. I will walk up to 3 miles and I just don't take him. I will only take Molly on short 1-1 1/2 mile walks. I've had them for almost 2 years. Go on your walks on your own for now and let Gracie adjust to all the new and wonderful things in her life. The walks will come with time. She may learn to love them and she may not.
  17. So, I switched to Annemaet food and the dogs love it. The good news it that I have WAY less poop. They went from pooping HUGE amounts of poop 3-4 times/day to pooping 2-3 times/day and they're small. BUT...we have loose poops. Mason, particularly has very loose poops. We've only been on it for a 2-3 weeks. How long do I give it for them to acclimate to it? Also, should I give Mason pumpkin or let him acclimate on his own? Molly has loose poops sometimes but not all the time. If you're wondering it's a great food, small bites, they seem to be eating less of it since it's a higher quality and I LOVE the less poop thing! I would highly recommend it (loose poops aside). TIA- GG, Mason and Molly
  18. My boy Mason is afraid of strangers, particularly men. He will hide behind me or next to me if a stranger approaches. Today on our walk a man driving by stopped to ask about the hounds. He stopped his car in the middle of the road and got out to pet them. Molly went running up to him and so did Mason. He greeted the man like he had known him his whole life. He let the man pet him and play bowed just like Molly (who's an attention whore)!!!! I was so proud of him. He's never greeted a stranger, let alone a man, that enthusiastically. Apparently having a sister who thinks everyone was put on the earth to tell her how pretty she is, all of our meet and greets and meeting people has been good for him. You've come a long way baby! I hope this continues.
  19. Mine are breed snobs. They pretty much ignore all the other dogs. They sniff, run a bit, play in the doggie pool and ignore the other dogs. Every now and then they'll play with a dog or so but that's about it. Our dog parks aren't very busy so it's not usually an issue. Molly LOVES the people and attention. If we last 20-30 minutes it's a long visit.
  20. I just put a cup of the Annamaet Food in with their food and they both made a beeline for the bowl. I'd say it's a hit. Now let's see what their poop looks like! BTW, if the smell is anything to go by it must be good. That stuff smells.
  21. I found this food called Annameat Dog Food. It's made in the USA and its antibiotic free. The bites are super small which is good because I think that's part of Mason's issue. The first few ingredients are salmon meal, brown rice, venison meal, millet(?), rolled oats, pearled barley Menhaden oil (?), vitamin e. Thoughts? It's reasonably priced and made by a guy who does dogsledding (just an interesting side note). I'm not great with food ingredients so I would appreciate thoughts and input. TIA- GG
  22. I'm sure it's been posted before but what's your favorite brand of dog food? I sense a change is coming.
  23. Mason has a very special way of eating; he dumps most of the food on the floor because I keep all the good food on the bottom. So far, there's no food on the floor. Also, Molly eats out of the side and Mason eats out of the middle (after dumping most of the food on the floor). So far, food has only been eaten neatly out of the side. Molly isn't getting bigger but she also didn't eat much over the week of house sitting so she's still catching up. I'm not worried about her. I can see hip bones and I couldn't before. I'd like her to put on a few pounds. Mason isn't looking noticeably thinner but at 90+ pounds and solid (but not heavy) it's hard to tell. I'm tempted to put him on a scale.
  24. I seem to be especially needy lately; I appreciate all your patience and great advice. Anyway, when I was house sitting I had to stop free feeding and go to meals twice a day and it didn't go over well with Molly and Mason. It wasn't when they like to eat, they were rushed, etc. On top of which, Mason seemed to prefer the food her dogs ate over what I feed. So, here we are back at home and Molly has readjusted without a problem. She ate a TON the first few days back and is back on track...YEAH! Mason, however, seems to be on a hunger strike. He's pooping great (nice, solid, and a lot). I really don't want to change food since they do so well so well on it but I want him to eat. I'm thinking since he's pooping he's eating at some point. So, at what point do I worry? FWIW: he's taking treats, drinking, active (well, as active as he was before...), etc. I truly don't think it's a health issue, I think it's a Greyhound stubborn issue. TIA- Anal Annie Greyhound Mom!
  25. I just pulled a tick out of Molly's ear. It's my first tick. What do I do from here? They get Frontline (Ivermectin) and Heartguard regularly. What else do I need to do? TIA!!
