  1. I love being greeted enthusiastically. But Summer doesn't bark, which I suppose makes all the difference. If you loved on her right away, is she happier?
  2. How sudden and sad! I just looked her up, what a lovely girl you lost!
  3. I have no advice, either, except for agreeing with this! No loose dog would be getting near my baby.
  4. Well, it's winter now. There's white crap on the ground.

  5. What a handsome boy! Welcome from Canada, where his full sister Jiminy Violet lives! I met his sister and, if he's anything like her, you are really going to enjoy him! Even in the kennel environment, Violet showed herself to be a gentle and loving soul, very calm. Edit.: She is a blue fawn, too. What a wonderful color!
  6. I don't have SA issues with Summer, nor am I into crating. So I guess I'm lucky that I never had to deal with it. She has the whole house to roam in at all times. As to the cats, Summer never adjusted to my cat and I had to find a new home for kitty. I tried for a month and then gave up. She was determined that the cat was going to be a snack. But one suggestion that I have for you is to pull all the furniture away from the walls. Just a bit, just enough for the kitties to escape behind but not enough for the greyhound to follow. Then they always have escape routes that are within reach. And you might want to think about muzzling the grey when the cats are out, until they are all used to each other. Good luck and welcome!
  7. Forgot about that! I've seen that done on TV on Animal Cops. Yes, the vet should definitely check that!
  8. I don't think much of your vet. But then, neither do you! It does look like a simple infection, treatable with an antibiotic eye gel.
  9. I'm so sorry for your loss. What a lovely hound!
  10. We keep a shovel outside by the patio doors in the winter and just inside the door, I tuck a coffee can filled with sand. We are accustomed to shoveling out the "toilet". The can-o-sand is a handy thing and might also be a good idea for you. Now that your "toilet" is shoveled, you may find that it gets slippery.
  11. This works. I always put her front feet up on the seat first and then started the nudging but I don't think you have to do that. I gave a consistent command every time, in our case it was "Summer, in". She's now learned it and will happily load into any vehicle I ask her to. She gets excited now when she's near the car and I unlock the doors and she hears the click. We did the same thing with jumping on the bed. My bed is unusually high, simply because I'm tall and I like it that way. So she had to learn. I have a bad back and lifting forever is simply out of the question. Front feet went up and hubby or I hoisted the back end. This took some weeks but finally she did it herself. Praise praise praise and the crowd went wild! Now... I just snap my fingers, "Summer, up", and we're a done deal. Edit: I've seen other people toss in things to entice their dog to jump in. It's always been something super yummy, like dehydrated liver or lung.
  12. I'm so sorry to read about your loss. Logan is a very very handsome boy!
  13. I won't give rawhide to any dog now, either. With my previous dog (pit/pointer cross), TWICE I had to stick my finger down her throat and fish out rawhide on which she was choking. I will never give rawhide again.
  14. Hi, Dory's mom! I had to look up Dory's racing name but now I know who and where you are. If you want a harness, you can get hold of House of Earl and she sells the WWW (Wiggles Wags and Whiskers) harnesses which are great for the greyhounds.
  15. Double yuck. Feels like winter!

  16. I assume you've already closely looked at it and ruled out a ringworm infection?
  17. I can't help you but I'd highly recommending switching from Frontline. I've heard so many people on forums and in person discussing its lack of effectiveness. The two which everyone seems to have the best luck with is Advantage and Revolution. I use Revolution myself with Summer and it is great. No fleas and I live in a flea town. I have used Advantage in the past with other breeds and it also did great. The only I switched to Revolution is because the internal parasite preventative is part of Revolution's formula, where with Advantage I had to also give HeartGard. Good luck! I had fleas once (before I discovered Advantage) and I can feel your pain!
  18. Thanks for the education about the fat thing! It just sounded so yucky being listed right up there.
  19. It "sounds" good... Edit.: Was just reading the kibble contents. "Fat" is, like, the 3rd ingredient. I find that concerning.
  20. I, also, have never heard of the pineapple thing. And our lab/pointer/springer cross ALSO was a poo eater! Nasty. But only for the first year that I had him. I adopted him as a lost and starved senior (10 years old) from the local shelter. I'm guessing he was eating the poo either because he'd been starved or because he was missing something in his diet. If you just adopted the Springer, perhaps he just needs time to adjust to his diet? I also NEVER let my dogs out alone, so I'm pretty quick at the whole poo thing. Good luck! -- eating poo is disgusting and so much worse than eating their own puke.
  21. If you want to teach the "leave it" in conjunction with a head collar... your local pet shop should be able to fit it properly. I wouldn't recommend PetSmart unless you get your hands on one of their trainers as I find the average staff member in there doesn't usually know an awful lot. I'd try at a smaller store. You don't have your location showing so I don't know what country you're in but if you were in Canada, I'd say go to a Global Pet Store.
  22. Thanks! I printed out the page and will keep it handy in my vet file.
