A growl or nip is one thing, but there could be the danger of a bite. I know someone that took their very old lab to the pound because it bit their 1 year old kid's face and neck. Never mind the kid had crawled over the dog's food bowl. Kid had to have a plastic surgeon and the dog was killed. I would wait for at least a couple of years.

One thing I was really worried about was him breaking his leg. There was no way the Vet could tell if that was going to happen or not and just did not want to chance putting him through the pain of a break. Best wishes to you.

Huck was diagnosed on Thursday and I asked vet to come to the house on Sunday. No matter what the vet gave him for pain, he cried 24/7. He was only 6, but I was not going to put him through an amp for just a few more months. Money was not an issue as I have Trupanion Insurance, so only thinking about my dog.

My vet told me not to stop giving Gab to them suddenly because it could lead to seizures. Just saying.

I have used it on both of my Greyhounds for years (at least 5) They are on 300mg every 8 hours around the clock. I have never noticed any problems.

Several years ago DaVid's weight had gone from 74 lbs. to 84 lbs. I cut his food from 4 cups a day to 3 cups a day (we were on ID) and gave him about 1/2 can of RINCED green beans. Salt is really bad on canned green beans. He dropped back to 74 lbs (racing weight) and has held it about 3 1/2 cans a day (I feed twice a day). I give no treats. I make a big deal about cookies!!!! and hand them a piece of kibble. They think they are really getting a wonderful cookie!!!!

I don't hesitate to speak up to the stupid dog or cat owners in the vet's waiting room. Don't really care what they think, just care about the safety of the animals.

I totally agree with you. I have met many stupid people in the waiting room. People let their dogs run all over and I have know dummies to bring their cats in without a crate. They just carry them in their arms. Stupid.

I always muzzle mine before the vet hulls their corns. Cheap insurance.

Kong collars are better for my Greys. They can actually lay their heads on them and they don't bump into the walls with them. I use a Medium size.

My vet started off hulling about every 3 weeks and have progressed to every week. Both greyhounds have several corns. Thera Paws have helped. I also put area rugs everywhere including on the ramp outside.

Both of my greyhounds have corns on several pads. We hull them every week. I would definitely check for corns.

I know what you mean about Trupanion's rates. It costs me close to $200.00 per month for my 2 hounds, but I cannot change companies because of their pre-existing conditions and their ages (10-11). But, my vet handles all of the paperwork for me. I don't have to do a thing.

The bill is sent from the Vet to the insurance company. Insurance company pays bill depending on your deductible.

I am using Healthy Paws for my Galgo and Trupanion for my Greyhounds. The Healthy Paws premium is about 1/2 of the Trupanion. Both companies pay rather quickly. I have only used Healthy Paws once with no problems. Trupanion has REALLY paid off over the years with the Greyhounds. Lady has had back surgery three times. She has had disk replacement. DaVid has had back surgery two times. They both have corns that have to be hulled weekly. They both are on Gab and Tram several times a day…the list goes on and on. So, either insurance company would be good, but Healthy Paws is cheaper.

I use "Kissable" and I order it on line. It is a toothpaste that is made just for canines and they love it. It does not cost much and lasts for months.

I have both Greyhounds and the Galgo on Zignature Salmon and Trout. It is working just fine. I know your pain about allergies.
Oh, and I get mine from Chewy.com It is cheaper and they deliver right to my back door. No taxes.

I am using the Seresto collar on DaVid for a couple of years now. I plan on using it on my other Greyhound and Galgo. It works great for 8 months!
Oh, forgot to say, Comfortis is what GAP (Greyhound As Pets) in Florida uses.

I have 2 Greyhounds and 1 Galgo and they take up most of my time…now, both Greyhounds have corns and both have had back surgery..DaVid actually had the same surgery twice and Lady had disks taken out and two years later had disks put back in..she is my bionic dog! They are on pain meds every 8 hours. The Galgo is problem free, but only about 5 years old..When the time comes that I do not have anymore dogs, I plan on volunteering at a shelter…I figure I can make a difference to many dogs that way and not just to 3. Wish you the best in your adoption.

The only thing is, once you become a vet I doubt your hours will be 8-5. My vet works incredible hours and since she is also an emergency vet, she is subject to being called in the middle of the night (every night)..just saying….

I gently want to say I firmly believe "a day too early is much better than a day too late". My vet and the specialist both said that bone cancer is a horrible pain for the animal. Huck would not even step up on his bed, tho he stood and stared at it all day..he wanted it, but it was too painful for him to move the shoulder. I called the vet to come.
