  1. Thank you dear friends for all your kind words and loving prayers. Grandma died a very peaceful death at Hospice House this morning. Family are all gathering. I cannot say enough wonderful words about Hospice House. A wonderful place. Wonderful people. Thank you so much.
  2. I did not know where to post this, and I wanted to share with my friends on Greytalk. My dear loving Grandma is in Hospice house at the age of 92. She is as mentally sharp as an 30 year old, but her body has been in bad shape. Her body is just too tired to fight off the sickness. I got the news just a few days ago. She has been a great influence on me. Many many laughs with Grandma until 3am in the morning so many times. She is the only other one besides me that I have seen laugh so hard she could not breath. She taught me to cook, sew, obtain and maintain good philosophies. So many fantastic deep conversations. Such a lady. Has three sons that are the sweetest human beigns on earth as was her husband, my late grandfather. It will be tough for me. She has always been so supportive of me and boosted my spirits up so many times. Treated me like a respected human being and was never condescending to me. Always appreciated me like a real person of value. More than anyone else I have ever encountered. I love my dear Grandma. Could I just have more time with her? Dont leave yet, dear Grandma!
  3. It is true. Sheba lived for 23 years!! I did not know cats lived that long. She was a beautiful long haired black cat with green eyes. But she was such a snob. But she was Grandma's little girl. Grandma is doing fine. See you at the rainbow bridge Sheba.
  4. I first saw the Gilley's Dancing Greyhounds in 1996. I met Gil and Kathleen and they are wonderful. I have seen them so many times throughout the country at many advents. I am so sorry for the loss of a wonderful lady. :f_pink :f_red f_yellow
  5. Very well said. Good word! Thanks for that, helps me too. Wow, this thread (subject? - learning the terms here LOL) is very educational to me. Never figured this. I have had Greys for over 15 years. Thank you all for the information for me too.
  6. I have been using raised food and water bowls for my Greys for over years. It is what I learned was best. They are much more comfortable eating, and dont gag after eating or drinking like they seem to do eating or drinking off the floor (when out and about with travel bowls). :)
  7. THanks for the link. I have it in my favorites. It seems that the Therapy Dogs International is the least stringent - however, I will ask the nursing homes in Decatur and Hartselle if they require a certification. But I want the girls to be certified so if we travel around to other areas, we are covered. Thanks for your info here. You mentioned the play group? Sounds great!! I would love to get things going in the Huntsville area. No one has Greyhound activities nor exposure up here. I need to contact Mc Gregors - unless you are part ot them.
  8. Wow, this really is fantastic information here. I will look into this. Hopefully they will welcome us with open arms. The two small country towns here will seem more lenient.
  9. They have always eaten kibble. Thanks for the information. They dont sit, but they do do the spinx. Mostly lay down. Thanks
  10. I have always had a heart for the much older people. I would LOVE to take my girls to nursing homes so the residents may pet them and enjoy their company I know Bella and Angel would just love love love it. Can anyone give me any suggestions? I live in Alabama. Thanks
  11. Yes, my former girl was this way wobbly when she turned about 9. My girls also have an amazing nights sleep as well as the next day when we do a Greyhound event with a long ride. Thank you. I kind of feel this too. Interesting about the blood work price. They sock it to you when you get old, especially a senior human!
  12. :rotfl Good timing, Gremlin. She had to make a statement to me!! Good Girl! Glad to hear she is still in her prime That is encouraging to hear that even at 11, she showed no signs of aging. My one girl at six seems not to like to play as hard as her sister in the back yard most of the time. But she is not old by anymeans!
  13. I understand that larger breed dogs seem to age faster than the smaller ones. And many Greyhounds may already be suffering from aches and pains even when they end their racing careers. So do Greyhounds age faster than most large breeds? When do they become seniors?
  14. My BAD big time! I am sorry for misreading your post - I was way off. I do see what you mean.
  15. Neither of my girls will roo for anything. I have them listen to you tube, and go to Sandy Paws, and wont roo!! They listen but dont roo. I wish I could,
  16. It sounds like he's a very happy boy in his new loving home! Many Greyhounds do some version of this behavior (including chattering teeth) when they feel extra happy and comfortable with their family. Have fun with your new boy! My boy ranges from a vibrating jaw (as you described) to a full teeth chatter. Some Greyhounds also "smile/grin" by lifting their lips up showing their teeth when they are happy. One of my hounds does this upon awakening to greet me each morning. It's adorable... she makes my day! Yes, yes, yes, this is so true. My Nylah use to chatter teeth, and smile a lot. She would pull both sides of upper lip up to have a big smile with eyes squinted and all. And she would chatter long and loud a lot. What a happy girl.
  17. I have read this book too, and to be honest with you, I dont think the writer is truly experienced with dogs nor is a dog lover. Greyhounds are very adaptable, yes, but they are also very very sensitive. Much more than other breeds. I think the changes in the book are too abrupt and harsh. I think Greys are lovely with babies and dont need to be put on the "outside burner" so to say. I would just make changes more slightly. I would also make sure that baby KNOWS and LEARNS that this dog is part of the family and is to be loved. As much as dogs need to respect little tots, little tots need to be gentle with dogs. I think you will see your little princess Greybaby blossom with love for the newborn. I have to say I strongly dissagree with your suggestion of "pulling, poking tails ears eyes". I must strongly advise against this. I have always said that Greyhounds are sensitive, and to let children PULL POKE at eyes tails and ears will only enhance nervousness, shyness, and Greys feelings of being abandoned. I would say you must train your tot NOT to "PULL POKE eyes, tails, ears. It is not hard to do. Children are also very adaptable, and when they understand that the Greyhound in the house is one you must be gentle with, they will not favor the habit to play with it like a toy.
  18. So glad to hear Oreo is on the up and up. I am sorry for your illness, prayers to you for continued health and recovery. Sleep sleep sleep. If you can please post a pic of Oreo.
  19. Please- no need to apologize. Angel is a beautiful little girl and I was touched that you shared her photo with me. Deeni and Angel would be great together- both sweet and sensitive. I wish we were not so far away from each other. Yes, they would. Deenie is so lovely. Rainy is lovely too. About her first poop in a long time...........you must have never been happier to see a poop in your life then when Deeni finally did!! So glad to hear good reports. Wow, I will have to remember that drug Tramadol. What a monster drug. Hugs and blessings to you Gigi and Deeni!!
  20. Very interesting. Thank you all so much for the educated analysis on dogs and emotions. I can only concur with my personal experiences. Since I was 6, I have had dogs in my life quite closely. I have turned to dogs as family members as I have had such bad experiences with human family. And when an adult, a lot of bad relationships, but dogs became my loves. I have attached myself to dogs on a level maybe none here have, I dont know. But in my many many experiences, I HAVE seen explicit emotions as jealousy, anger, love, compassion, and utter happiness. I can give you the thousands of examples, and many would agree. I have really tried to agree with the empirical knowlege above as educated, corrolations. However, in retrospect, the vivid memories prove those educated analysis wrong only to me. Dogs have communicated amazinly to me and I to them through sight, touch, and voice inflection including vocabulary. I will continue on the many wonderful ways I communicate to my girls. I may be off the deep end to many here, but I would not trade my past experiences for any one nor anything. Thanks so much for the information.
  21. That makes sense. But they feel all the same emotions we do, dont they? Jealousy, anger, happiness, love, compassion? But no tears. LOL Thats ok.
  22. Thanks, but the pretty little black hound is Angel- LadyGrey's dog. This is Deeni: I am so sorry Gigi for parading my girl in your post. I was being too mommy there. Your Deenie is just LOVELY!! I wanted to see a pic anyway!!! Still praying for the sweet baby. She has sweet eyes too!!
