  1. Ours sleeps anywhere he wants. :lol

Really...some nights he sleeps in our room on a dog bed at the foot of the bed. Other nights he likes the rug by the front door or a dog bed in the living room. About 90% of the time he uses the dog bed in our room. Works for us, that way we can hear him if there's a problem or he needs to go out, which rarely happens.

  2. Stool sample definitely. Like the other post said, probably a round of Flagyl. if she continues not to eat, you might need to do the boiled chicken or boiled ground beef with rice or pasta. If your pup won't eat those, you may need to try some scrambled eggs or I/D food. Your vet will let you know the best course of action depending on any test results.

Keep an eye on weight and hydration. They lose weight fast when they stop eating.

Don;t try too many things at once, otherwise you won't know what worked. Usually it's a gradual process to get them eating again and get the tummy healed if there is irritation or a problem.

  3. The only thing we've found that Rocket gets any good chewing action out of is bones from the butcher shop. Everything else is gone in 30 seconds. He usually gets a bone 2-3 inches wide once or twice a week. They are actually cheaper than chews, I get about 6 bones for 2 to 3 dollars. We do make sure that he is not left alone with the bones.

  4. We have tried many of the "better" foods. Over the last 2 years we've fed Iams(this is what he was on when he came to us, but his coat was flaky and dull, and he had wicked gas), Eagle Pack, Blue Buffalo, and 3 varieties of TOTW. In every case, on the richer foods, it's like there's a tolerance level that is reached and the Big D appears - out of control until the food is changed. We just went through it with TOTW which we had excellent resuts on for months until blowout diarrhea appeared for weeks . Note - we are not blaming the food as being a problem, it's more like Rocket can't tolerate the richer foods after a while. I am still a huge TOTW fan, it just doesn't work for Rocket.

He is now on Precise Foundation which has chicken in it, but is more of a "basic" food.. We've avoided chicken in the past due to bad experiences with some other chicken and duck based foods that we sampled. It has been 3 weeks and he is doing great on it. This is the "house" food at the boarding facility we use, and they have had great luck using it with their own greyhounds. Surprisingly, his coat seems even softer than it did on TOTW. So far, it is looking like it might be a very good food for him. Only time will tell for sure though.

  5. I would try some Vet Wrap and wrap until you think the sock is secure. Might have to be trial and error. If you don't have Vet Wrap, your local drug store will have it as a self adhesive roll bandage in the First Aid Aisle. If you have a Farm / Horse Supply store nearby, it will be much cheaper there, and you can buy the colors that match Lexie's outfit. :lol

  6. We are not in Corvallis, but have been there many times when my brother lived there. Some things to check out when you arrive: Great Coffee at The Beanery, and wonderful food at the New Morning Bakery . The DaVinci Days Festival is also a blast.

There are some Active GreyTalk Folks in the area but I can't recall names.

    Good luck on your move.

EDITED TO ADD: Somehow, i forgot to mention one of my favorite dive bars - Squirrel's Tavern in Corvallis. It's not fancy, but is very laid back, and the food is awesome. Best chicken sandwich and burgers I've ever had. The fact that I forgot it means we are overdue for a trip out west.

For a trip to the coast, check out Florence, Oregon, or Yachats, Oregon. Both are a reasonable drive. In Yachats - the Adobe is a great hotel and has a very good restaurant, on the oceanfront.

  7. I'm sorry to hear about your problems. Beth is on the Pacific Stream though, and this issue started about 3/4 way through a bag, so I'm really not thinking it's an issue with the food.

No problem, just wanted to put it out there as a possibility. Our first problem with the High Prairie started when we were more than halfway through a 30 lb bag, which is stored in a sealed, airtight container. He had been on TOTW for quite a while and we beleive that it is a great food. I've lost track, but I think we've used it for at least a year, and never had an issue until a month ago. After all the stool / urine samples, blood work etc, it seems to be coming down to the food for us.

We have noticed that the High Prairie and the Lamb based kibble is darker and appears oilier than it used to, so even if an ingredient didn't change, it's possible that one of their processes did, or it's just the batch to batch variation where they use a coating to make up fat or other content that is an issue for Rocket - not sure.

Hope it's an easy fix for you and Beth.

  8. OK - since you started the thread.....I was afraid to bring it up. We have loved the results from TOTW until a month ago.

Rocket started having runny poop on TOTW High Prairie a little over a month ago. After switching bags, trying different lot codes etc, we switched to the lamb based food which is lower calorie and he firmed right up - for about a week. Then back to liquid poop. We did a round of fasting, Flagyl, Hamburger and Rice, and when he fimed back up we went back to the lamb, figuring we switched him too fast. It was a no go. He also can't tolerate the Salmon based foods, so that is out.

Tonight, he has eaten a small amount of scrambled eggs and rice after a 24 hour fast, and today during his fast, (sorry to be graphic) he pooped a huge bloody mass of gelatin like substance (vet says this is irritated stomach lining.) He was absolutley disinterested in his food the past few days, so I know the look you are speaking of - (IF it's so good, you eat it....that look)

I started Googling, and found that TOTW made a change to the High Prairie last year. Some people reported issues in July, others in December, and I'm speculating that the change was phased in over time at each plant, accounting for the spike in reports in those 2 months. The change apparently involves more Venison and less Bison in the food due to availability issues. I found most of this info an another forum, but don't have it handy to reference for this post.

Tomorrow I am picking up some I/D food at the vet as long as there is no problem with the eggs and rice. She wanted me to try a scrambled egg and rice before buying the food. He is back on 2 weeks of Flagyl also.

We will be searching for a new food once he gats back on track. He has been perfect on TOTW until the past month, and I have a feeling that there has been some ingredient change that he just can't tolerate. As enthusiastic as he was on this food , I think Beth is probably on to something. His enthusiasm stopped - and this boy never met food he didn't like.

Also, there has been no rhyme or reason to the timing - new bag, 2 weeks into a bag - didn't matter. We even tried multiple bags with different lot codes triyng to rule out a bad bag or spoilage. This is the third or fourth time that we've had to change foods where we've found info about a formula change that coincided with stomach issues. We can't really do raw right now, but it sure is tempting.

Hope Beth feels better and gets her appetite back.

  9. I conducted a forum update this evening, we were 2 small releases behind. This was just a bug fix, no new large features. Please let me know if you notice any oddities.

Oddities other than the broken event system..AGAIN.. I'll get that working again hopefully tomorrow.

The landing page at greytalk.com has no content on it and no "click to enter" as before. Greytalk.com takes you to the Portal tab, but the page is empty.

  10. We've had no gas issues on any of the Taste of The Wild foods. We are currently feeding the Lamb based TOTW food.

Price here in Illinois is about 37-40 dollars for a 30lb bag - but we also find that he needs less of this food than others we have fed. He gets 1 1/2 cups twice a day and maintains his weight at about 70 lbs.

We have also fed the High Priairie TOTW and no gas on that either, but it was very rich and we found that he would occasionally get the Big D on it. It really varied on the High Prairie - he would be great for a while and then unexpectedly have Big D. Things have been perfect on the Lamb based TOTW which is a litle lower in calories.
