  1. Oh. My dog who had the soft-tissue sarcoma was named Phoenix; he had just turned 4yo when diagnosed. I am sorry to learn of your Phoenix's passing. In the picture beneath this post, Phoenix looks like a fawn; my Phoenix was a blue fawn. If I cannot control Gandhi's pain better, I may have to escort him to the bridge sooner than I would like. He is not a brave dog, and I do not want him to suffer. My Phoenix was also a blue fawn. He had beautiful amber eyes. Did your Phoenix, also? I'm sorry if I upset you when I posted about my Phoenix, who was 11. Remember, everybody is different and every dog is different. My tolerance for seeing Phoenix in pain was absolutely nonexistent.
  2. I'm sorry you're going through this. I was in the same situation last month. Everybody has different philosophies on how to handle this. I've heard good things about gabapentin. I sent Phoenix to the bridge when I started to have difficulty controlling his pain, but like I said, other people might have handled it differently.

    Lucky Tony

Oh Diane, I can't imagine two in the same day. I'm so very sorry, but I'm glad they're still together.

    Sophie

Jackie and Ty, I am so sorry. My heart stopped when I saw Sophie's name. I'm sure she's found Phene and Loca by now and is having a blast.
  6. I'm so very sorry. Every single day I checked his thread in Health and Medical hoping for a positive update. My heart broke every day that there weren't any after he went home. I'm so grateful the two of you had some quality, loving time together. Run free, Minny.
  7. I cried when I saw Cash's name. She was such a kind gentle soul. Cash, find Phoenix and Loca. You'll have a blast.
  8. Judy and Mike, my heart stopped when I saw your subtitle in Health. I am so very, very sorry for your loss. Heart was so incredibly beautiful and special to all of us. She will be sorely missed.
  9. Thanks so much for posting this, June.
  10. Great news about Heart! Things will be back to normal at home before you know it

    Goodbye, Em-Dash

What a beautiful, gentle face. I'm so sorry
  12. maidmarcia, I suggest you bow out of this thread right now. Asking about letting your greyhound off of a leash is the best way to get eaten alive here. I'm not kidding! having said that, please don't let your dog off the leash unless he's in a completely enclosed area. if something in the distance catches his eye, something that you can't even see, he's gone and nothing you can do will stop him.
  13. Casey is just as beautiful as I remember! Thanks, Mary, and I'm so glad that she's OK
  14. I am thrilled that Dude is doing so well, and just as thrilled about all our hounds that are doing well! I'm sure everybody would agree
  15. I hope Cash is better soon. How are you doing? How about Minny?
  16. Casey my love! I hope she is OK! I've always felt close to her since she came from the same thread that introduced Loca. Can you post some pictures?
  17. Great news about Lucy, Jess! I'm so glad she's doing well. Do you have any pictures?
  18. I found Circle of Grey very helpful for the short amount of time I was on. I still offer support when I can. They have a wealth of knowledge and a great library.
  19. Phene was on Tramadol and Metacam. He wasn't around long enough to try other meds.
  20. I did, but Phene was only with me for 1.5 weeks post diagnosis. My vet kept insisting that it was arthritis because osteo can present itself differently in greyhounds than in other dogs. It wasn't until I insisted on x-rays and sending them to OSU for a second opinion (my vet didn't that it was osteo) that I knew how the diagnosis. I wouldn't have opted for amputation because of his age. Now that he's gone, I realize that he must've been very ill before he was diagnosed and that amputation wouldn't have extended his life or quality of life very long at all. I'm really glad that I didn't do it. I don't have any regrets about the way I handled his illness, except that I had to go out of town for work and wasn't with him during his last few days, although I was there when he was sent to the bridge. His condition deteriorated so quickly; he seemed great and comfortable when I left town Thursday and was more than ready for the bridge by the time I returned Saturday morning. We took him straight to the vet because even if he had a few comfortable days, he wasn't going to get any better and I didn't want to extend his pain. Early diagnosis or late diagnosis, or even if it was arthritis, management wouldn't have changed. Good luck and don't forget that we're here for you. ETA that there is a GTer whose hound is being treated with Chinese herbs. He was diagnosed at the same time as Phene and is still alive and well. If anybody's interested, I can ask her to post the protocol.
  21. I'm so sorry you have joined this club. Berkley is a beautiful guy. I had the same concerns about Phene after he was diagnosed with osteo. I didn't want him to break his leg, but he was still feeling good enough to play. I received some great advice in this thread about using my own judgement, which I did. Ultimately I let him play with Treasure in the backyard, but never without close supervision.
  22. Heart, Jilly and the rest of your family continues to be in my thoughts
