I have been searching for a dog to adopt after my Buddy passed on in May. I was going to just keep it at 2 but I miss having a 3rd. I put in an app at a local sanctuary after some unsuccessful matches at the local humane society and was matched up with a 5 year old basset mix. Cookie and Mac did a meet n greet and everything went well. Her history is she was an outside dog that was on an underground day fence collar and started nipping. Not a good situation and I think those systems are the worst anyways. The man brought her in and didn't even realize she had a limp or said he didn't know, anyways. He dropped her off, completely emotionless. They are going to do X-rays to make sure it might just be the Lyme and they have her on a cycle of doxy. Does anyone have any first hand experience with Lyme or any advice? I'm still waiting for my app approval but I wanted to get some info. I love her so far and hope that it all works out.

Thank you so much everyone. I feel like posting it here is some kind of therapy. I miss him a lot but I know he's in a better place. He went downhill kinda fast so he didn't suffer long but I didn't think I would lose him this soon. He was a rescue. He had broken ribs that healed that way and had no medical treatment for it. They say he was kicked by the woman's spouse or boyfriend who surrendered him. He never held a grudge and lived up to his name. He was a great friend.

Buddy the dachshund was rescued from a bad home situation and I adopted him after seeing him on a pet board a few years ago. I always hope he had some great years with us and his life was full. He had loads of personality and although Cookie wasn't always his biggest fan, they were all "family". I haven't been able to post this until now. It was very hard, as all beloved pet deaths are.

I've had it happen here, as well. Oddly enough, Cookie was having some issues a couple weeks ago and then my mother got sick, as well, the next week. I know the bug probably can't be passed from dog to human but it was ironic timing.

Cookie exhibits some type of marking behavior, mostly out on walks with my other male dogs. She will squat down only a little and pee just a little bit. She does it quite a few times. It definitely seems like marking. She really doesn't do it at home or even on walks near our house. Just when we go downtown to walk or other events, especially with other dogs.

Bt(Horse) Killed By Another Horse. We Miss You, Big Guy!
September replied to Neighsayer's topic in Remembrance
So sorry for your loss. This reminds me of the documentary "Buck". There was a horse that was aggressive towards people and was eventually put down. Not sure if your familiar with it, but thought I would mention this. -
So sorry for your loss. 🌹

Buddy seems to be officially on the mend. His eye is back to normal and yesterday was the last day of his medicine. I'm glad I didn't wait to go to the vet- it seemed like the next day he was already doing much better.
-
The vet did said if it didn't get better or got worse, to take him back in. Tonight it is looking better already!
-
So today I woke up and happened to look at my oldest dachshund, Buddy and noticed something was wrongwith his eye. I managed to get a Saturday appointment and took him in. The vet couldn't find a scratch. He gave him a doggy neosporin. I'm glad it wasn't super serious! Did anyone have a similar situation with an eye injury? I'm racking my brain trying to figure out it happened.

Any Other Greys Scared Of The Chuck-It Sticks?
September replied to a topic in Training and Behavior discussion
Cookie loved the "Chuck It" and would actually fetch the tennis ball. I had to tap the top part on the ground in front of her and she would drop the ball. Her phobia seems to be large, random round or oblong objects like watermelon, rock, pumpkin, etc. Dogs can have weird phobias, I guess! -
Wow, so sorry for your loss! I will always remember posts about her.

I feed just the regular lamb&rice from 4Health. So far, so good. The dogs look great on it and no upset tummies. It's also much lighter on the wallet.

What's Your Favorite Dog Food?
September replied to GreyhoundGirl's topic in Food and dietary discussion
Just switched over from Wellness Grain Free to 4Health. While it is less expensive, the dogs seem to have less trouble with it, stool-wise. It's readily available, as well. So far, so good. -
Anyone Feed Their Dog 4Health Salmon And Potato?
September replied to a topic in Food and dietary discussion
We tried a bag of 4Health for the small dogs and they didn't seem to do so well on it. They were on Science Diet previously but b/c of supply issues at that store, they were switched. I feed Wellness Core to Cookie and I switched them to the small breed version (they like smaller bites), and so far, so good. -
So sorry. Thank you for sharing her journeys (and yours) with all of us.

Cookie started going up to my room to pee while I was at work. The spots were cleaned meticulously and I gated the stairway off- no more pee. Same with the basement. Gated it off- no more access. No more problems.

I've never really been a big fan of Cesar Milan fan. I had heard enough criticisms in the past about his training methods and probably watched some clips or heard stories from his shows and pretty much wrote him off. I actually have the NatGeo channel now and I've been able to sit down and watch a whole show. It's not too bad. I can't say that I would necessarily use his methods, but I do like the idea behind some of them. I haven't really seen him "alpha roll" a dog in any of the shows I've watched. I like the idea of his show- rehabilitating a dog who needs a home and finding the most suitable place for them. I hope it encourages more people to look at shelter/rescue dogs. I like the idea of the "pack" philosophy as well as a couple other concepts he has talked about. I wondered how the divorce had affected his life. I didn't realize there was a suicide attempt, also. Sounds like he's been through hell and back.

All of mine sleep with us- Cookie has a bed in my room.

I am so sorry. I will miss all the jilly bean pictures and stories. It's been such a sad week in general.
-
Sorry for Jilly Bean and family but sounds like she is still doing pretty well. It will be weird not seeing random Jilly Bean posts and pictures on GT so I hope she stays well for a long time.

Northeast PA here! I love the brindles.

Cookie likes to chatter! She mainly does it if I'm taking her outside, getting ready to feed them, or just got home (on occasion). I think she's pretty much doing it out of anticipating or excitement. Sometimes I bend down close and pat her while she's doing it- it's so neat to hear it. I've heard Buddy the dachshund chatter. I was surprised to hear it but that doesn't happen often.

It's always great to see new people around here! I love Ibizans, by the way. So pretty.
