  1. Last night I noticed that Wendy was favoring her right hind leg. On closer inspection, I see that one of her middle toes is straight rather than hare-like. It looks slightly longer than the other toes.

This morning, she's not limping and doesn't seem bothered by her distended toe. We go to the vet anyway and there is no break nor dislocation on x-ray.

Huh. :unsure The surgeon will look at the x-rays on Monday and give me a call. Maybe the injury is in the ligaments or tendons. My greatest concern is that this will cause lameless later on.

Has anyone experienced this type of injury? Any input would be most appreciated.

  2. Having experienced the nightmare of bloat with our Rhodesian Ridgeback, it is my understanding that bloat does have a tendency to recur. Our vet attached Champion's stomach to his ribcage to prevent a future episode.

I blame myself completely because I allowed him to race around the yard right after he had eaten. Mismanagement indeed. :cry1

  3. Wendy has free access to a large, fenced-in yard where she is able to potty and/or run. She has made a pretty good 'track' back there for herself!

However, I feel it is just as important to take her for a walk every day, weather permitting. We take leisurely strolls every evening before dinner or a couple of hours after. More than exercise, I view our walks as bonding time and enrichment for Wendy as she experiences new scents & sounds apart from our yard. We walk in the neighborhood or sometimes we pile into the car and drive to a park or even just several blocks away for a change of pace.

  4. Hello and welcome from a fellow Miamian, FIU'er, AND FOG Dog adopter! We adopted our girl Wendy from FOG a little over one year ago (God bless you, Michelle! :kiss2 ) and have never for a second regretted our decision.

I think that your pre-adoption anxiety is a good sign that you will be a responsible pet owner. I researched and debated for over a year before finally taking the plunge.

Keep in touch and let us know how things go.

P.S. I work at the University Park Campus. :wave

  5. My wife is full Mexican and I'm half Mexican so there's a familiarity culture wise about him that makes him easy for me to understand. For the most part though, as with anything in life, I take from it what I want and forget about the rest.

Being Hispanic myself, I can relate to this statement. Cesar is "familiar".

I do read CM's books (don't watch the show) just as I have read Stilwell, Brannigan, Rugass (sp?), the Monks of New Skete etc. I take from each trainer what I and my dog need and what I feel is appropriate to the situation and temperament of the dog I am training.

The more knowledge I have, the better my relationship will be with my hound and the happier we both will be.
