How's Kentucky doing? Were you able to get him to the vet? His issues are absolutely emergent!

There are reports of dog flu in Florida.
Has anyone had their greyhounds get the vaccine?
If so, any side effects?
Wendy received hers last Saturday with no adverse side effects. It seems that this outbreak started with show dogs.

The only thing I can think of is doing an allergy test and then perhaps treating with some drug, maybe antihistamine, and seeing whether symptoms go away? I had a serum sample sent to Hemopet today, and the test is for environmental allergies (Spectrum serum testing for inhalant and contact allergens). Sorry I can't be of help here.
This is very helpful...thanks! At least I can discuss the appropriateness of the spectrum serum test in Wendy's case.

Does anyone know how a vet would determine if the coughing and/or retching is allergy related? Wendy has a follow-up appointment in 3 weeks and I'd like to discuss the possibility of allergies. She actually just now retched seemingly out of the blue.
LP was discussed with the vet. She does not think that this is what's happening as Wendy is still able to easily run laps without experiencing any breathing difficulties.

Yikes! This sounds exactly what I just went through with Wendy. She'd been doing the cough-cough-gag thing for a couple of months. Exactly what Bordatella sounds like. Also some hoarseness when she barked. X-rays of neck, throat, larynx , pharynx all normal. Labs, all normal. Last week, she spiked a 106F temperature and spent 3 days in the hospital. We truly thought that Wendy would not survive. Thank God and our wonderful vet, she's fine now but we still don't know what happened; all tests were normal! I know this is no help to you except to know that you and your pup are not alone in going through something like this. Keep an eye out for fever. The vet thinks that Wendy was probably feverish for several days before reaching a critical temp. I now have a dog-only digital thermometer! Best of luck with Tracker.

Virbac CET all the way! Most pets from what I've seen like the vanilla-mint and chicken/poultry flavor the best, and their human counterparts like the vanilla-mint for its "freshness".
When it comes to other pet toothpastes, I often look at the ingredients and wonder... how exactly is this stuff keeping my pet's teeth clean? Most of it seems to be junky (aside from those preservatives to keep a pasty consistency). However, since the Verbac has enzymes, it actually breaks down compounds and reduces bacteria in the mouth, helping to prevent tartar in the future. When you buy it in the future, check Chewy too - sometimes they have sales. I recently ordered some for $6.99. Good luck!
Also, I tend to save money by buying baby/soft toothbrushes with a long handle at Walmart/Dollar General. They work just as well as the ones specifically for dogs, and they're so much cheaper too.
Yup...what is all that stuff in the other brands? I was tempted to buy the vanilla-mint 'cause I would like my own toothpaste to taste like a cookie but opted for chicken since a mint flavored paste made Wendy spew in the past...poor thing!
Eek! I paid $9 for it on Amazon...gonna check Chewy next time. Thanks for the tip.
My vet taught me more than 30 years ago to use bits of old panty hose wrapped around my finger as a toothbrush. Brilliant! Just rinse them off after use and let 'em dry...good to go for the next day. I don't wear hose any more so when the bits need replacing (they actually last forever, just about), I get the cheapo knee-high ones that come in the little plastic shells at the Dollar Store.
I second the vanilla mint! It's hard to get a hold of around here though.
Amazon has it but I'm in the U.S.

Sharing in your sorrow. Peace to your grieving hearts. Rest well, lovely Flower.

Absolutely TWICE a day. I lost my soul mate Slim to bloat and he was already being fed twice a day. Most experienced dog people shoot for twice a day in my experience.
I must agree. 2-3 feedings a day is so much healthier.

My dog goes nuts over the Virbac CET chicken flavor.
Oh, good! I ordered some last night. I once used a peppermint flavored toothpaste (not CET brand) and poor Wendy promptly
.

Ubiquitously....
I actually like Virbac products; my vet uses them. Off to Amazon to check it out. Thanks!
I use Sentry Petrodex and it has always worked very well.
Thanks...I'll check it out.

Just used the last little bit of Nylabone brand toothpaste. Meh. What are you GTer's using for your hounds' dental health? What's particularly good at blasting tartar on those way-back, hard-to-reach molars?

An ultrasound sounds like the right thing to do at this point to determine if there is a neoplasm. What a difficult journey for you both. Stay strong for your girl. Make all decisions from a place of love.
I wonder if something like this lifting aid would help:

When is Snow's appointment with the vet?

CHEESE SLICES! who can resist cheese?!!!
Wendy. She'll fall for it the first time but, after that, all bets are off. Brat.
<<< See, she's mocking me!

How is Snow doing today? I am really quite concerned.

Maybe a fish-based food...kibble or canned? Sardines (packed in water)? Salmon? Green Tripe? Anything stinky.
-
I'm so grateful for all of these great tips. Here's another one I just learned; boil chicken hearts in water until tender. Let cool and stuff pill/capsule into the center of the heart (apparently there's a natural opening). Use left-over broth to moisten kibble.
Okay, screw the pill pockets! I made the bloody chicken hearts which worked great for one dose. By the second dose, Wendy, the skinny little smarta$$, realized there was a capsule in the heart, spat it out and looked at me like I was trying to kill her. From now on it's open, shove and swallow. Chicken hearts do make nice post- pilling treat, though.

Hang in there.

Continuing to keep you and Snow in my thoughts and prayers.

My old lady (11 years old) has always been a "panter" even at 2 years old when we adopted her. I've always said that she "runs hot', panting even with the A/C blasting. She has never been able tolerate heat. Lately, she has become extra "panty" at night for no reason that I can ascertain but does not seem to be in distress. She does have arthritis which is very well controlled with medication.
