    Gracie Lou

Rest in peace, little Gracie Lou.
  5. Ditto, my Sam. Can your Sunny handle chicken now? (I went from Nutro Ultra--lamb, chicken, salmon--to Eukanuba Venison/Potato: instant relief. Just wondering what to do with three more bags of Ultra, and hoping he'll be able to tolerate it.) I haven't tried him on chicken again yet so I don't know. My plan is to keep him on the lamb for several months and then try the chicken again and see what happens - I too have lots of chicken food I'd like to use up! That's interesting about the intestinal bacteria being out of kilter, but I guess if the diarrhoea goes away with a change of food then the bacteria can't be the cause of the diarrhoea?
  6. I had this with Sunny after he was on antibiotics for 3 weeks. At first I gave him probiotics, thinking that this would resolve the issue, but it didn't, so I changed his food to one with a different protein source (lamb instead of chicken) and it cleared up immediately. I don't really know why, but it seems Sunny developed an intolerance to chicken whilst he was on the antibiotics, or it could just have been a coincidence - who knows!
  7. I have two white greyhounds and I try to keep them out of the sun as far as possible, particularly between 11 and 3. If I do have to take them in the sun I use baby sun lotion liberally on their noses, thighs and chest and down their legs where the fur is thin. I wash it off once we get home. I have also used the lotions specifically made for dogs but they come in such small bottles, here in the UK at least, that they don't last very long, which is why I prefer the baby lotions.

  19. I have no experience of amputations so don't know about phantom pain but I just wanted to say that nerve pain, such as sciatica, could cause that kind of reaction. I suffered from sciatica for a while and the searing pain would always come when I was doing "nothing" and certainly used to make me jump. Is it possible that, with all she's been through, she might have put her back out and/or that there's pressure on a nerve somewhere? Could you get her checked over by a chiropractor maybe?
  20. Yes, Sunny had some intermittent limping on one of his front legs a while back, which the vet couldn't find a reason for. Eventually we took him to a greyhound specialist vet who found a problem in his neck which was treated with chiropractic sessions with success. I don't believe that this problem (a slight misalignment of one of the vertebrae) would have shown up on an xray.
  21. I was going to suggest a chiropractor too. The one we take Sunny to was telling me how important it is for older dogs to have regular adjustments. He said people assume that when their dog starts slowing down it's age-related but a lot of the time the dog has some misalignments in its spine that need adjusting. Might be worth a try. I trust the chiropractor more than the vet for anything joint-related!
