  1. Celeste and Bonny both make similar noises this time of year. We believe it's allergies.
  2. I agree with the above. I don't like stereotypes. We have three female greys. They all get along greys, love to cuddle and are always in the same room with us. Our girls are all over the map when it comes to size too. Our girl Bonny is very tall and slender at 75 lbs. She often gets mistaken for a male.
  3. If it helps to make you feel better... our grey girl Darcy started wetting her bed shortly before she turned 8 y/o. Darcy was the type to never have potty accidents either. It turned out she had a loose sphincter. We had her on Proin for awhile, but were eventually able to wean her off it.

Oh Anne... my heart goes out to you. I'm so sorry.
  5. Hi Anne - I just saw this. My thoughts are with you and Kylie. I hope everything turns out to be OK. Please keep us posted.
  6. No words of wisdom, but wanted to send you this...
  7. She was wearing a Thera-paw up until the vet appointment two weeks ago. She hated it. Our vet told us to stop using it since her foot was all healed. She actually uses her foot more now than she did with the Thera-paw - just still not using it 100%. It's hit-or-miss. She'll use her foot sometimes on walks and then will start to limp. Celeste is a bit of a drama queen about everything, so it's hard to tell if she's in pain or not. Our vet tends to think that Celeste just "forgot" how to walk on all 4's. She told us we could let Celeste back in the yard (we had been doing just walks). She seems to have no problem running around like a lunatic on all 4's there.
  8. Well... it's been two months and Celeste STILL doesn't want to put her paw down on hard surfaces. I brought her back to the vet's office two weeks ago. She took X-Rays, etc. and couldn't find anything wrong. The corn is gone as far as we can tell too. Celeste doesn't react if you press on her pad - that's a good sign considering what a drama queen she is. Our vet put her on a muscle relaxant thinking that not using her leg regularly for such a long time caused the muscles in her leg to tense up. Two weeks later and Celeste isn't showing a ton of improvement. It's very frustrating...
  9. I just saw this... My heart goes out to you and your family Robin. Polli was one lucky girl to have you.
  10. I don't have any words of advice, but wanted to send you a hug. You've certainly been through your share of heartache this past year between Polli and Beau. I really hope that things start to improve. You are a wonderful grey mom.
  11. Our grey girl Celeste had a corn removed on Monday, January 19. She had laser surgery. The corn didn't look like much on the surface, but the vet said it was HUGE underneath. She even needed 4 stitches. It's been nearly a week and Celeste still won't use that foot. She's been taking pain meds and an antibiotic. We have a follow-up visit with the vet on Monday.
  12. Caring Hands Animal Hospital in Centreville, VA. It wasn't cheap - almost $450 - but we love our vet. We use Dr. Amy Dillon who has lots of experience with greyhounds. Celeste seems to be doing OK. She doesn't want to put any pressure on the foot where the corn was removed. It's making for some very short walks. On a positive note, she is eating and sleeping well.
  13. Celeste had the corn in her left back paw removed this morning using laser surgery. It was supposed to be a pretty easy procedure. Unfortunately, the corn was much, much bigger than expected. Our vet said it didn't look like much on the surface, but once they got in there it was big. Poor baby! She had to have 4 stitches which will be removed in 2 weeks. Her paw is padded and wrapped. Thankfully, she doesn't seem interested in messing with it. She's on meds and seems to be resting comfortably.
  14. Our grey girl Darcy was arthritic at 6 y/o. She raced until she was 5 y/o, so it didn't surprise us. Our vet recommended Synovi G3 Soft Chews. They've done wonders for Darcy. We now give them to all 3 of our grey girls.
  15. What a beautiful tribute... run free sweet Ember!
  16. GPA-NoVA is doing a Meet & Greet at the Books-A-Million in Old Town this Saturday, January 17. Stop in if you need a greyhound fix.
  17. Well, my vet was the one that suggested it. I don't know how long they've been using the laser at the vet practice. My vet did say that she's done a couple of corn removals on greyhounds with excellent results. The surgery is scheduled for January 19th (our vet only does surgeries on Mondays - DH and I are both off on the 19th), so we still have time to check into this further.
  18. Our 5 y/o grey girl Celeste appears to have a corn on her back left paw. She walks fine on soft surfaces, but limps on hard surfaces. We spoke to our vet about options. She suggested laser surgery. She said they've done it on a couple of greyhounds and the corns haven't returned. So, we scheduled Celeste's surgery for January 19. Has anyone else had laser corn removal? Any thoughts?
  19. Oh no not Speck! Sending out my deepest sympathy out to both of you.
  20. I'm so happy to hear that sweet Polli is doing well.
  21. Welcome from Northern Virginia! DH is originally from the Rochester area (Penfield). His parents still live there... we'll for 1/2 of the year anyway (other 1/2 in Florida). DH and I both went to SUNY-Geneseo back in the early-1990's.
  22. Sending sweet Polli well wishes! She's one spunky old gal.
  23. We use Caring Hands Animal Hospital in Centreville. The vets there see a lot of greyhounds. Our usual vet did her internship near a greyhound track. Unfortunately, she wasn't available today so we saw another vet in the practice (who we haven't used before). We'll make sure to get our regular vet if Celeste isn't better by this time next week. I just got back from our evening walk. Celeste is still limping. She walks fine on grass - only limps on pavement. DH and I did feel around her feet, but couldn't find anything. It seems like the limp originates more from the hip area. Please continue to send happy thoughts... we're really worried about her.
