  2. They are so amazing these hounds that fall into our lives. They teach us things we never knew should be important. They are stong, brave, smart and silly and meet each new day with the unbridled happiness of a child at play. They are content with a belly rub, find joy in a stuffie to bully and want nothing more than to be where we are. They trust us implicitly to do what is right for them, care for them, love them. What we get in return is so precious and rare in this complicated world we live in and is there for anyone to have if they only open their eyes and heart to it, the unconditional love of a hound for its human. Cali seems to have been one of those hounds that change lives for the better. I'm happy that she had such an inspiring impact on those who knew her, loved her and learned from her. I will celebrate her life with you and hope that your heart heals true and well. Thank you for sharing your beautiful hound and her story with us. L.
  3. Miss Rose came into this house and into my heart in early September 2009, shortly after being bounced back into the adoption kennel after being in a home for seven years. She was a tiny little thing, nine years old and seemingly no bigger than a minute. Her eyes seemed to be too big for her face and she had a funny little snaggle tooth. She was, none the less, as all hounds are, a little beauty. She was delicate of size and frame and was dwarfed beside Gustopher P. He took one look at her as she came through the door that day and scowled at me as if to say "What?!?! Another girlie to wear on my last good nerve?" After a few good sniffs his countenance seemed to soften and melt into one of an enamored teenager. Gustopher P, who has always been the loner of the pack, seemed to take Miss Rose under his wing, soon becoming her protector and self appointed guardian. One to never share his sleep space or his man-cave, Gus became her constant companion in the house, allowing her to enter his immediate space. He would move himself to the living room beds if that is where she wished to rest. He would occasionally let her share his bed of the moment, moving over to make room for her tiny little self to join him. She had him wrapped around her little toe, allowing him to fuss over and protect her. My big man has always had a spot in his heart for the little girlies in his life. Miss Rose came to me with a seemingly endless list of small and worrisome medical problems. We dealt with them as they came up and Gus continued to care for her as if she were his own prized possession. He seemed to know before anyone else when she was not feeling well. When my vet called me to tell me that he had found a tumor on her chest x-ray my heart sank and my world tilted a little off its axis. After much discussion, soul searching and many sleepless nights, I made the decision to keep her as comfortable as possible and let her live out her time, however long that may be, happy and unmarred by large invasive and painful surgical procedures. And this she has done. Her symptoms and behavior have changed over the last few weeks and I have watched her with a pain in my heart, knowing that my time with her was drawing to an end. Gus has stayed close to her and deferred to her needs over his own. He stood in the kitchen this morning and watched as she turned away from her favorite food. His face was one of sadness as he kissed the side of her face where her lip sagged slightly. He licked her eye gently where, overnight, it seemed to have quit seeing or blinking. I said goodbye to my tiny waif child this morning. It was, as always, difficult. My heart hurts, not only for me, but for my big man of the house who has cared so lovingly for her over these many months. Gustopher seemed to know when I came home without his precious Rose, that she would not be returning back to him. He wears her collar on his big strong neck along with his own. He is staying close to me, I think to console me as well as himself. I will not mourn my soft sweet and tiny little waif child. I will celebrate her life. Another blessed hound who was loved, adored, cared for and cherished. Another special hound who was given a couch and a family of her own. And I am doubly blessed to have had the opportunity to love, care for, cherish and adore her. Gus and I will truly miss our little Miss Rose.
  4. Welcome from Miami. Miss Junebug is a beauty!
  5. I add my prayers to those already sent. I do so hope that Beau is feeling better quickly and with no complications. L.
  6. Its so wonderful to see that a beloved hound was able to stay with you and flourish to such a grand age. Our older hounds are a testament to the marvelous love and care they receive. I'm sure that your distinguished gentleman will be sorely missed by all who knew and adored him. L.
  7. Oh Robin....You know that Miss Loca sent Miss Treasure to you to keep you out of trouble! And to keep you from being lonely for her. When Treasure gets into mischief, its because Miss Loca has whispered in her ear, instigating and encouraging the silliness. I have also had visions of Miss Loca in a doggie thong doing table dances much to the delight of the boys at the bridge. Besides Robin, you and I both know that they are never really gone. They are nestled there, right where they are suppose to be, in the middle of our heart. L.
  8. Wishes for a speedy and uneventful recovery L.
  9. Maybe this is why we never got a reply from OSU a bunch of weeks ago about the "thing" in Rose's chest. Sad, sad and more sad.
  10. I wanted to go to the OSU website this morning and look up a normal greyhound lab range and was unable to access it now without registering and paying an annual $99 membership fee. Whats up with this and when did this start. This makes me very very sad.
  11. A blessed hound with a loving family is all we can asked for these hounds. Rascal had that and more. We are so sorry for your loss of this special pup. L.
  12. “Love to eat them mousies, Mousies what I love to eat. Bite they little heads off… Nibble on they tiny feet.”—B. Kliban
  13. How terribly sad for you and your family. Thank you for loving him and giving him a wonderful home to live out his life. L.
  14. Oh how sad.....our condolences to her family.
  15. Beth and Pete - I was blessed and oh so very happy to have had the pleasure of meeting you both and your dear sweet Peanut at Sandy Paws. Her gentle smile and easy acceptance of all who paid homage to her was a joy to watch. Her sweet nature made her ever so easy to love. She left a lasting smile in my heart. Thank you for giving her such a loving home, an adoring home, a blessed home where she was a cherished member of the family. I know that your hearts are hurting and that your pain is the price you are paying for loving her as you both have. It is a steep price but so well worth the joy she brought you and everyone she met. She rests now in your heart but she plays, runs and holds court with all of our cherished bridge kids, safe, happy and forever loved. My wishes for you both during this painful time are hearts that heal well with the joy of her memories. L.
  16. I'm so sorry. They hide it so well sometimes. Another shining Star in the night sky
  17. You are still going to get it cheaper, quicker, no shipping charge at Target/Costco
  18. I send you strength and all of my heart to help you through this sad and painful time. L.
  19. Clindamycin works well. Gustopher P Jones had his dental the other day and is on it. To help your wallet, have your vet write the prescription and take it to Target/Costco/BJ's pharmacy. Gus's Rx cost me $6.00 at Target. The vets seem to charge a fortune for antibiotics so mine always writes the scripts for my four. BTW - one pharmacy said they didn't carry Antirobe and I had to tell them it was Clindamycin. Once they Googled it an saw I was right they filled it without question.
  20. Xanax (alprazolam) is very addictive. If you are going to take her off of it, WEAN it off SLOWLY.....

  22. Oh Beth, I'm so very sorry to see this. I know how frightened you've been for the past few months. We hold you, Pete and Peanut close in our hearts. L.
