I felt like she must have called out to me because I found her on the REGAP website within minutes of them posting her picture. She was so sweet and so loving. She adapted so easily to our household and acted as if she had always lived with us. My male grey Brad, began attacking her outside when they would run and play. She had stitches several times and ended up being in her crate all the time. She never wanted to come out. She stopped sleeping with me and snuggling on the couch. This saddened me so much. I felt like she just wasn't happy. After 6 months of her living with us I decided she may be better off in a home either by herself or with a very calm grey. Brad was just too much for her to handle and I couldn't figure out what the problem was. I have had tons of fosters with no problems from him. Anyway, Regap found a super home for her, a perfect match about 9 weeks ago. They loved her so much. A couple of weeks ago, Derby began losing weight and had no energy. It ended up she had Immune mediated hemolytic anemia and possibly bone cancer as well. They put her to sleep this afternoon. I feel so sad for them and for me. I feel a bit jealous that I did not get to spend her last minutes with her. I also feel tremendously guilty as well. I gave her up when she was so sick and I didn't even know it. She had no signs of the diseases yet. I feel like I abandoned her. I know she went to the most loving family though and that does help. Plus the mom works at a vets office and was able to bring Derby into work with her so she could keep an eye on her. I wouldn't have been able to do that. Derby had a tough life before I had her and all I wanted was for her to be happy. I know I did the right thing but it is still hard to take. That sweet little face is gone, her sweet kisses and cuddles..gone. I will hold them in my heart forever. I can't believe how hard this is. Thanks for listening.
