Panting at Night

Recommended Posts

I recently adopted a 5 year old girl about 4 days ago and I'm noticing a consistent and troubling behaviour in her.

She's settling in quite well, but occasionally she starts panting when she's relaxing on the sofa (not at any other times really).

She sometimes even jumps up on the sofa for cuddles and starts panting (we don't keep her there and she wants to be cuddled up to us)

Is it just an adjustment period causing her anxiety? Or should I get her checked out for something at the vet's do you think?

Thanks everyone! X

I think it's excited/happy panting. Grace starts to pant when I stop the car at the park, when I say walkies, when we visit my mother, (the ginger biscuit lady as Grace thinks of her :D) or anything she thinks is pleasurable.

Only four days at your house? Don't read too much into it. She's still nervous/excited/full of emotions over the giant change in her life.

A month from now and she's still doing it? Then maybe make sure she's ok, medically.

We have had our girl for 7 1/2 years and she still occasionally does this too.   I wouldn't read too much into it!   Just keep an eye on her if it becomes too frequent.
