Guest Jacks_Human
This is (hopefully) minor, but over the past week Jack has been slightly favoring his front left paw. I checked for corns, which he has had before, but didn't see any. Did not see any cuts, bruises or swelling either. However, he favors the foot if he's walking on hard surfaces, or will occasionally pull it up if he's been standing still for a while. Anyone have anything similar with their hounds? Anything else I should check before I book a vet visit for him?
RaineysMom
I'd be willing to be even though you don't see it yet, there is a corn there. That's how Larry's started -- and we just had the 4th of 4 paws hulled yesterday. That last one on his final paw came out of nowhere. Remolacha
If he has had corns before, that would be my first guess. They can hurt even before they come out enough to be seen.
tbhounds
Wet the bottom of his pads with water or baby oil-you may be able to see the beginnings of a corn.
XTRAWLD
If it's not a corn, he might have tweaked his leg/foot funny and it's not the paw at all. Is he favouring his paw on hard AND soft surfaces? If he's tolerant of boots (padded soles), try putting one on him and see if he bears his weight.
