Hi-we are looking for a good greyhound vet in the Boston area (or somewhere in Eastern MA). His current vet admitted that she'd never treated a greyhound so we'd like to find one that has a lot of experience.

Can anyone recommend one?

Thank you!

You might want to call the greyhound adoption groups and ask which vet they currently use.

My vet (Dr Mason at Dedham Vet), sees a few greyhounds but would not really be classified as having a lot of experience with greyhounds but, I haven't had any reason to complain about her treatment of my greys. Also consider Angel Memorial, it's a great ER and the specialists there are very good - my dogs end up there quite a bit with ER visits and Lucy's neuro is there.

I think you will be inundated soon with more recommendations. There are a lot of greyhound-savvy vets in Boston and it is usually a good idea to get a vet close to you.

It is a bit far from downtown Boston, but Dr. Poling at Holliston Animal Hospital 13 Exchange Street, Holliston, MA is a real greyhound expert and also the Greyhound Friends vet. He has been very generous in being available for consulting with my vet over the years (my dogs tend to present with weird problems!). He also treated Olly for a badly broken leg before I adopted him, and probably saved the leg. I adopted Olly when he was still in a splint and we had to go to Holliston for bandage changes several times. I was very impressed with Dr Poling and his office staff.

Still missing: Nell (spaniel mix) 1982-1997, Boudicca (JRT) 1986- 2004, and the greys P's Catwalk 2001-2008, Murphy Peabody (we failed fostering) 1998-2010 and Pilgrim (Blazing Leia) 2003-2016,

MaryJane! I had no idea you used her! I used to go to that clinic and I think they're fabulous! All the vets at Dedham Veterinary are good, I think.

Most vets in Mass. have at least some Greyhound experience since there are so many Greyounds here. As long as they're willing to read the articles on blood differences, there isn't really that much different about a Greyhound.

Angell Memorial is VERY expensive. I'd go there for a specialist only.
