Frozen Apple Slices To Clean Teeth?

I was talking to my principal about our dogs and she suggested frozen apple slices to help clean teeth? Has anyone tried this? Thoughts?

Mine will eat a small piece of apple but won't take a second. I did discover yesterday that he LOVES cantaloupe though.

That's funny, I discovered earlier this week that cantaloupe goes down without being swallowed. They would have eaten the entire thing if I had let them. I read somewhere it was good for them so I thought I'd try it...huge hit!

Enzo loves apples. He's been know to steal them off the table and eat them core and all. Don't know how well they'd clean teeth though they aren't that hard.

So far, I haven't found a fruit or a vegetable that Autumn will eat . She'll go for any type of meat- or cheese-flavored food, but the rest has to be "doggie" stuff. I'll keep trying (next experiment will be raw turkey necks........but that's because she won't let me brush her teeth.......but I know to just buy ONE to try, just in case..... ).

The plus is that she's indifferent to much of what I'm eating .

You could put some peanut butter on the apple slice? Makes a good snack for da hoomans, and whets the appetite for the pupster.

 

I wouldn't think it would have the scourability needed to get the gunge off the teeth, unless they were pearly white already, in which case this "tip" is redundant.

Anytime I give Bantay some apple- it comes straight out when he does his number 2 :/ Not sure if that is just him though.

Yep, apples give Bella the runs, too I learned the hard way when I put some applesauce in her Kongs one week. My own applesauce, no sugar, no seasonings, just apple mush, really.

funny to see this posted. one of my students is busy making a lego dog house and asked me about dogs eating apples and carrots....she wanted to know if it's appropiate to put them in her lego dog's bowl!

I don't know that a frozen apple would have enough grit to clean teeth. But heck, if your dog likes them it certainly can't hurt.
