racindog
For the future don't forget that any supplements containing MSM are contraindicated with steroids. Praying for Patrick to get well!

tbhounds
Sounds like he may have lyme nephritis -- saw a dog recently that had it-- his UPC was crazy high (6?)- he was a mess. Euthanasia was actually considered-- owners continued to treat him and today he's doing really well. He did the antibotic protocol and was started on enalapril immediately. Hang in there! Btw- they did start him on a kidney friendly diet-- k/d or n/f Edited March 26, 2012 by tbhounds
PatricksMom
What about something like FCE? http://www.veterinarypartner.com/Content.plx?P=A&A=1663 While it looks like we're looking at a TBD as Patrick's probable diagnosis, your suggestion got me to realize how serious the situation was so we got him expert care right away. I think that probably saved his life and I can't thank you enough for caring. Quote Beth, Petey (8 September 2018- ), and Faith (22 March 2019). PatricksMom
Patrick is home, up, out in the yard with DH at the moment, eating enthusiastically. We're going to have some figuring out how much kidney disease management he needs (the vet said don't worry about it for the next 2 weeks--keep him eating), but we have our boy back. He's probably 75% recovered, but he's enjoying life again. Thank you so much for all the advice and caring. Quote Beth, Petey (8 September 2018- ), and Faith (22 March 2019). Our Shane has had TBD-related kidney/incontinence issues too, so I wouldn't be surprised if that were Patrick's issue. We manage Shane on Royal Canin medium-protein kibble. We treated him for Babesia a couple years ago -- even though the titer was a low-positive, treating it made a huge improvement in his functioning -- and now have to decide whether to treat for Lyme too (because of contradictory results on two tests). Sigh, you and Patrick have our sympathy and every good wish!
