nessa
Hi! I have been reading GT for a few months now and enjoy it so much. We have two greys, Shana adopted at 2 and now 10 1/2 and Misha adopted at 4 and now 7 1/2. Shana has blossomed from the shy scared dog we adopted to a happy sweet, lover girl. Misha overcame her initial sleep aggression and now knows the benefits of lovin' and snuggling!!! We have gotten great ideas and suggestions from this site including foot booties, best bullysticks, mushers secret, biotene, and burpdog biscuits are a must for Misha's upcoming birthday! Now to a question: Shana has been diagnosed with severe liver disease and chronic active hepatitis. You would not know it to see her eat, walk, snuffle in the yard, but she has fluid in her abdomen. Does anyone have any experience or information on this to share? We are starting medications, milk thistle, and a low protein diet. Thanks in advance for any thoughts of treatment or outcome. She is the dearest, sweetest, quietest thing and we love them both very much!!!! Misha Shana

45MPHK9
Can't help with your medical question but I did want you to know that we organize a GH only play date in West Chester at Applebrook Pet Resort on West Strasburg Road. We have stopped this for the winter but we will be starting these playdates up again soon. I usually post the dates and times in the events forum. Welcome to GT. Guest Adrianne
Hello from Atlanta. Your girls are beautiful, and I love what Misha is wearing in the first photo. Sorry, I have no experience with liver disease, but do post the question in Health & Medicine, if you haven't already.
MP_the4pack
Hi and welcomed from NJ. I hate to add this to my welcoming post. But I do have experience with liver disease. It took my first baby Topaz from me 11 yrs ago. She was only 5. She had the fluid in her abdomen. (called ascites) A protein losing enteropathy. Some say you should feed more protein because they are losing so much, others say low protein and they won't lose as much. I was told that with meds she would last 6 months to a year. Maybe even 2 yrs. She was gone 4 days later. I hope your Shana follows the prognosis better than my Topaz. Good luck.
nessa
Hi MP_ the4pack. I am sorry about Topaz. Shana is on low protein food ( no more PB kongs) and the denamarin to assist with healthy liver cells I think. She has lost the fluid weight and the repeat ultrasound looked better but the vet makes no promises. Unfortunately, we lost our 12 1/2 year old sheltie to liver disease 4 years ago also and that too was about 7- 10 days from diagnosis. So one day at a time but she looks and acts good- so we have that. Thanks for the thoughts.
