phall
My 19 month old, Star, has been having GI/intestinals problems since we brought him home at the end of May. He's been on a bland diet, various prescription diets, and flagyl and we're not seeing much improvement. I'd like to talk with a vet who specializes in GI problems to get another opinion. Can anyone recommend someone they really like in the Boston area? Thanks. Pat

Guest KennelMom
Your vet should be able to refer you to a board certified internal medicine vet. The specialists here only take referrals. You can do a search on the ACVIM site http://www.acvim.org/websites/acvim/index.php?p=3 Edited August 19, 2010 by KennelMom

My Beau, has IBD so we needed one here in NY. MaryJane
Have you tried Angel Memorial -- they cover most of the specialties. You will likely have to be seen by one of their regular vets to get a referral to the specialist. I have used them on numerous occasions and have been satisfied although I have not used them for GI issues. Someone already mentioned Tufts .... I have also heard about a place in Rhode island that is supposed to be fairly big and cover a fair amount of specialties -- think the name is "Ocean State" os something similar. Good Luck with your search.
phall
Thanks, everyone. After a difficult night for Star last night, I got an appointment to see Dr. Bari Spielman at VESCONE in Waltham. She is great - I liked her a lot and would recommend her to anyone in a heartbeat. We have a plan for treating Star's diarrhea with additional metronidizol and a sulfur medication and we got the food allergy tests back, so I'm feeling much better. Guest jurishound
Hi Pat - Glad you found someone you like! Dr. Spielman saw my first grey several years ago and I recall liking her - I think she started at Angell and defected to VESCONE. For anyone else who may be interested, Dr. Carroll at Angell is also very good, and her tech is fantastic. Talca loves them.
Guest LindsaySF
I don't have any advice on specialists, but I would do a 5-7 day course of Panacur if you haven't already, before getting expensive testing done. Or have you tried Tylan powder? Good luck.
