Guest boondog
I have a digital thermometer. I got it in the baby section at Target. I also bought the disposable covers for it.
Guest Energy11
I would LOVE a mercury, but cannot find them anywhere. I have a digital for the hounds.
Guest KennelMom
the glass mercury are supposed to be most accurate. We use digital. We have one CLEARLY labelled for the dogs and one for humans. That's a thermometer you don't want to mix up
greyhead
A nurse told me that digitals read about 1 degree lower than mercury. So if one knows that, they can interpret the reading accordingly. macoduck
But can the digital be an ear one instead of rectal? Guest cruzNhounds
The reason for asking.... our Vet wanted me to take Poppie's temp, and of course he recommends the old fashion glass rectal. I wanted to see what is best used and to get some input. Poppie was taken to the Vet last Thursday, she has not been herself since we lost Dusty back in May. Found out that she had a 104 temp, Doc ran a fecal hoping it was hook or whip worm... it was negative. But her labs not so good... RBC & WBC counts low. Chem Screen showed ALT 837 ALP 2271, Now when Doc was telling me about these results all these numbers sounded like French to me but when his eyes teared up and he softly said we are dealing with Liver infection OR Liver Cancer. It became very clear that our little girl is SICK very sick. Poppie got a B-12, Baytril and Tetracycline injections and was sent home with Doxycycline. The comforting news.....Poppie seems to be improving, her appetite is increased and she has some (not a lot) of energy. And since I can't find the glass rectal therm I did take her temp using a Digital (probe therm) it was 101.8. For Thursdays follow up with Dr. Rick. And She has only and only an infection.
