mom2four
GOOD! Jamey's appointment went well. The 2 surgeons that operated on him saw him in the waiting area and came up to him (and us) to say Hi and ask how things were going. Everyone at the CARE centre knows Jamey! The oncologist checked him over and then blood work and chest X-rays were done. We will get the bloodwork results later today, but I'm not that worried about them. It's the chest X-ray that one worries about with osteosarcoma of course. On inspection by a radiologist they were CLEAR! Yeahhhh! He will check them over again today (we were the last appointment of the day) and write up his report. We brought up the regurgitating of food that he does occassionally and the oncologist was not too worried about it. She thinks it might be a bit of acid reflux. We're to give him pepcid AC for a week and if he does not regurgitate acid reflux is suspected. The oncologist wanted to see what his bloodwork was like before really committing to any firmer diagnosis or tests for the regurgitation. She also said that dogs can carry food in their esophagus (wild dogs regurgitation food for their pups), and this might just be the case with Jamey also. If things stay OK with Jamey, symptom wise, we need to go back in 3 months for another oncology recheck. mom2four
The oncologist called us yesterday with Jamey's blood and urine results. There is a problem, but it is slow developing. Jamey has a bit of protein in his urine, and his blood albumin (protein) level is a bit low. The creatinine and BUN are also just out of normal range. All the values are just out of the normal range. The vet thinks he has glomerulonephritis, but one more test needs to be done. So Jamey is in the beginning stages of kidney failure. She said this usually worsens over a period of years...and realistically speaking, Jamey probably does not have "years" left. But once we get the result of that test back she will determine the next course of action. She is gone to a conference next week so we won't hear until the week after. For now we'll just keep doing what we're doing. ETA, We want to thank everyone for the nice words about Jamey!
