Guest Greensleeves
Jazzie goes in for surgery to remove her bladder stones tomorrow. Our vet has apparently done a ton of these (per the specialist who diagnosed Jasmine), but I think this is our pack's first *major* surgery (involving an organ) since they were all neutered 8 years ago. We always worry. We're also really hoping that this makes her feel better. It turned out that this latest bout of discomfort wasn't an infection at all (the culture showed no bacteria). I feel terrible that we put her through two rounds of antibiotics for an infection she didn't have. I'm also worried because I have a meeting tomorrow night and won't be home to help her and DH. So... Cross fingers and paws that she makes it through the surgery with flying colors, has a quick and easy recovery, and FEELS LOADS BETTER!!! Thanks! (on the upside of everything, I'm finally feeling better from my anemia crisis... not nearly as frazzled and confused now that my brain cells are getting more oxygen! )
Guest Energy11
CONGRATS on the return of your O2!! THAT is a HUGE thing, as you found out. I am SURE Jasmine will sail through all of it tomorrow, and be a happier pup afterward! Love, hugs and prayers from here! brandimom
Good thoughts coming your way for Jasmine! The dogs also have their paws crossed. I have had kidney stones off and on for years and normally have to have them "blasted". I had contacted Marina at www.naturalrearing.com and she sent me a natural supplement which has helped. She also has natural supplements for canines for kidney stones/bladder stones. Would not hurt to contact and ask her what she recommends. Marina@naturalrearing.com. She is a wealth of information for my three dogs. Wishing Jasmine the best recovery ever! P.S. Don't know if bladder stones in dogs is the same as kidney stones. Greytlady94
Stephanie, how is Jazz doing? It does not seem like 8 years since they were tiny babies. Guest Greensleeves
Greytlady, I KNOW!!! Impossible, but true. UPDATE: She came through the surgery just fine. They found three stones lodged in her urethra, which were probably causing all the discomfort. She could not have passed them. So even though the stones were small and few, it was still an absolutely necessary surgery. Whew! The bad news... she didn't get to come home tonight. We weren't aware that they keep cystotomy patients overnight so they can monitor their urination and recovery from the anaesthesia. Since she had a dental at the same time, she was under a little longer than usual, and so she took a little longer to recover from the gas. We went to see her at 5, and Doc had decided to keep her, so she could finish sleeping off the gas without eight brothers and sisters all up in her business. :rolleyes Sigh. Just one of those wires that got crossed; our bad for not finding out in advance (we never actually got a chance to speak directly with Doc beforehand, which is TOTALLY UNUSUAL; it was just a weird timing, plus all the other insanity of the last few weeks.) Oh, well. She's in good hands, but they're not there 24/7.
