White Specks In Poop?

Guest NSGREY

:unsure I've noticed the past few days while poop scooping in the yard that there are these white specks like grains of sand stuck in a group on some of the poop. I'm not sure what to think...I have been checking online at the various sites on worms and parasites but I'm not clear on what it could be. The specks are not as large as grains of rice so I ruled that out.

Has anyone else seen this before and is it something that I should take Adora to the vet for??

Yup, sounds like tapeworm. I treated Sherri on Friday for the same thing.

We went through the same thing with Seamus--teeny white specks in the poop. I took in a stool sample, and they checked for everything, found nothing. We think it was the type of food he was eating. It is always worth getting it checked to be sure.

There is no question when its tape worms. I think its a toy.

does he eat egg shells? Once in a while I will give Callie the shell of a raw egg and the next day she has some white flecks in her poop. TL never eats raw egg shells (she doesn't like them) and she has never had the white flecks.

My b/f's Boston had something similar, it turned out to be a tape worm. The vet gave him meds and he was as good as new.

yup, tapeworm. ember got a droncit shot and that cleared it up "rightawayquik"

Tapes generally look like grains of rice or actual worms; I've seen the teeny specks too and when the fecals came back on those samples they were always negative. I vote for "it's something in the food".

:nod For a couple/few days I stared at Rizzo's poop trying to figure out what was going on - tiny specks of white. I was just about ready to take a sample to the vets and then it dawned on me. He had started showing renewed interest in and was gnawing on a Nylabone from the toy box. Problem solved! I hope it's nothing for you too!!!

Curious to know what kind of food you do feed. If it might be the food, it would be nice to know the brand.

From Wisconsin -- It's Nancy, Bob, Carla, June Bug and our newby Skorch.... along with Buffy. She's the little hound that meows.

With loving memorials to K.C., Barko and Major Turn -- all playing at the bridge.

Well we have a Nylabone but she doesn't chew on it...at least I don't think so and I checked it to see if there are any new chew marks and there are none. I'm feeding her Kirkland Chicken and Rice formula food. It might be nothing and I feel silly asking but truthfully I'm one of those dreaded first time dog owners who knows next to nil or at least it feels like it at times :blush

Nothing wrong with being a first time parent. :) We all had to learn at one time or another. Take a sample to the vet and have them check it out.

Could just be the rice from the food. But I'd still have it checked out with a stool sample to the vet pronto. Especially if it's something new that you haven't seen in the poops before. Tiger had tapeworm and got rid of it with one dose of medication. He didn't even have the white specks in his poop. We found an egg sack (ewww gross!) sort of attached to his butt fur. It was tinier than a grain of rice.
