We're visiting friends and Rosie got into some trash and ate cooked chicken bones about an hour ago. She seems perfectly fine. I've been reading around (we are not near the vet until tomorrow, tho we could find one here if need be)...people recommend feeding cotton balls soaked in half and half, or rice...anyone been down this road and have any ideas? I am trying to stay calm...

Thank you!

Uh oh.

Give her bread. Watch for signs of distress, abdomen pain, fever.

Any idea how much she ate and which bones? Did she chew them or just gulp them down?

If it's a fairly small amount chances are they'll pass through fine, but keep an eye on her just in case.

Actually, the chance it'll pass through just fine is pretty good. Mac has downed a few cooked chicken bones and gnawed a ham bone to pieces...

Intestinal tissue is unbelieveably tough--but, as everyone else says--keep an eye on her.

Mac, who always apologizes after those kind of episodes...

Thank you everyone.

Rosie is doing okay, no evidence that anything passed yet. But we will probably never get to eat sandwiches in peace again (she loved the bread).

DH found the cotton ball cure by googling for dog first aid for swallowing bones. Neither of us could believe it! Cotton balls dipped in 1/2 and 1/2!

She got the bones from 2 legs, one breast and a thigh (based on forensic investigation and basic chicken anatomy). Some of the bone was pretty spongy.

She already apologized. That's what clued us in - she has no poker face. She's a great criminal - leaves very little evidence - but she has that look...gives her away every time.

Keep your fingers crossed.

The bread is good - if you have any metamucil, mix that (just a bit!) with the bread...
